Less than 4 hours to go, only Brett outstanding. I see it's now been over a week since he's been on the site. If he doesn't show up tonight, he's going to be an unhappy camper when he does arrive and finds that S. Jackson will be a UFA.

Man, I can't wait to start bidding in one week!

Mike, I appreciate the sentiment. I'm just speaking as an owner here (it's Bri's call as commish), but I don't think you can proxy bid for someone just based on what you think they'd want to do (without actual knowledge). Heck, if we're just going to guess, we'd all guess S. Jackson and we would all proxy for him.

Besides, he's so close to the cap, that I'm not even sure what level he'd tender him at. Maybe he plans to roll with AP and Edge this year and wants to cut Jackson loose so he has some cap space to go after some WRs.

LOL, no not really. Just trying to help out a good friend.

It's REALLY nice being able to pop in, see whats going on, read the debates, post a comment here and there and not give a damn how things turn out. ;)

Sure I miss some of it, but not worrying about player movement, RFA's or UFAs, the rookie draft and whatnot, yeah, I'm OK with that.

I'm going to agree with Jim, here. Brett didn't show up, and this has happened to other teams in the past. What we've done is not allow that team to have any RFAs.

Now, if Brett doesn't show up at all this week, we have another problem in that we are short an owner again. Hopefully we don't have to cross that bridge, but we might want to start thinking about options if that happens.

Hmm, whatever your strategy is, I'm missing it. Wayne is an instant decline for him, so I don't see how it matters what price he's at.

Yeah maybe Wayne's going to end up overpaid, but that's how you pry them away AND make others hesitate to join into a bidding war..

Kinda like what Amish's did on Sjax.

Bid him high and make the owner struggle to match. That's how you get RFA's.

I think it's GREAT for Matt to get that respect and be seen as a top tier squad. He's certainly paid his dues and deserves to be a condender!

Since people don't seem to see what I'm getting at, here was my thought process. My ribbing of Frank had nothing to do with the Wayne's price (irrelevant to my concerns), but timing. Matt was in cap hell. He's got 5 excellent WRs and is in desperate need of a QB and starting RBs. Until he can decline Wayne, he was stuck. I know how bad he wants a QB (based on all the trades he's tried to make) and he traded for Anderson with the intent to match, but he's got no room to do so with Wayne on his squad.

So I threw Anderson out for a bid that would cause him deep pain to match. He'd have had to free up $435 to match $850. His easily cutable guys equal less than $400, so to cut enough guys to make room would require him to cut deep into guys that he wants to keep. Or swing a trade. Or do something drastic to make it work.

Of course, that only works when he's stuck up against the cap. Now he's free not only to match Anderson, but have money to enter the RFA market, too.

If a good team has put themselves in a box, I say we keep our foot on the top of the box (or even push it down a little). I figure if us lower teams wanna move up, the higher teams gotta come down in the procees.

Oh, well. Onto other strategies…

What do I care how it affects Matt?

Sometimes you can get extra fancy.... but at the end of the day you have to improve your team and like you said Wayne is an easy decline (so I hope).... so I'd like to make that official and get onto the building the rest of my team.

Plus we're not talking a defending champ here.

Well all you have to do now is up the bid on Wayne in 2 days and you'll accomplish that (assuming no one else jumps in on Anderson) Also, why isn't Chatman an easy cut? Did I miss something with him going to NYJ?

At that price? No chance. I have 850 to run a sneaky move on a guy that I'd be happy to land if it backfires on me (I need a QB and Anderson would look lovely on my team). But I have no space or interest in bidding 2350 on a WR that would kill me if I landed him.

And Chatman may be an easy cut talent-wise, but it's a $220 hit. That's his pain, which could have been our gain.

Why would Frank care about your "sneaky" plan? He cares about his own team and not yours. You're saying he should have looked at Matt's situation and held off so Matt would be forced with a decision on Anderson? Again, why? What would the Insects gain by that? Why would he care about your team or Matt's? He's trying to rebuild his own squad.

Personally, I've never looked at another team bidding on a UFA I had no interest in and said, "oh, gotta stay out of that so he can force x team to make a decision... THEN I'll jump in on the next guy." I have, however, looked at teams in trouble, and bid on a 2nd or 3rd RFA from the same team at the same time, knowing that my chances to land the player just increased.

San Diego Chargers tight end Antonio Gates plans to undergo potentially career-ending foot surgery next week to fix the injury that nagged him at the end of the season. The Chargers Pro Bowl tight end faces a prolonged recovery time, which would likely prevent him from being ready for the start of the regular season.

I can't believe he's up to 1000 already, that will be an easy decline.

Clearly he doctored the numbers, as Gates somehow found a way to catch 1.5 TDs in 2004 and .5 TDs in 2006 in his stats. They're joke articles, people! Notice how the bolded terms are all the opposite of reality.

I would call it a shock to the system. I actually got whiplash looking at that bump. He really is still hurt... a little bit... This is why we've got less action than SAC'D - lots of bids right at the market value.
