Paste your rookie smack talk here

Re: 2010 Rookie Draft Commentary

Sooo!! We can start picking tomorrow. Since this draft has some stud WRs, maybe Spiller or Matthews will fall to 1.4. Wadda ya think!

Did I mention STUD WRs?

Yep, I think the last time I checked these rookie drafts are dominated by WRs. But hey, a WR went 1.01 last year and you can't say that Bryant doesn't have just as much talent as Crabtree AND he is in a better offense. But the team picking #1 this year is a Chargers fan soooo......I may have idea who is going 1.01.

Friday.. Saturday. Same difference. Official clock doesn't start until Monday so what difference does 24 hours make?

Re: 2010 Rookie Draft Commentary

WR's look preety good and God knows I could use a stud - But there are some real good RB's after the Sandiego homer pick. QB? Maybe. Is it too late to pick Jamarcus Rusell????

People can still put in bids on RFA's which could affect Comp picks...highly unlikely but still possible....

Oakland dropped him...so you could claim him on waivers :goodpost:

Ah gotcha!

No one wants Jeremy Shockey?!

place a bid minimum bid of 650 and he's yours I promise!

Re: 2010 Rookie Draft Commentary

it's Sat why haven't the Clowns picked yet?!!

Assuming the Clowns make their advertised homer pick you can cross RB Ben Tate off your list.

Scorpions May 8th, 2010 09:12 AM

Re: 2010 Rookie Draft Commentary

I believe 1.1 is going to be Matthews

Scorpions May 8th, 2010 09:13 AM

Re: 2010 Rookie Draft Commentary

never mind, i think you meant your pick will be that, never mind

Bounty Hunter May 8th, 2010 10:51 AM

Re: 2010 Rookie Draft Commentary

Yes Tate will be my pick if Clowns pick Matthews.

Hope we don't have a problem at 1.5. I think Mutts is a no show since he matched on Roy Williams. He let Brees and Benson go and he has a lot of cap space.

Burt the Butcher May 8th, 2010 01:01 PM

Re: 2010 Rookie Draft Commentary

Jake (Mutts) comes in when needed...he did same last year during RFA's but was on it during draft..I have his email so should not be a problem..

Does Bryan's verbal to not take Spiller still hold now that Bobby has 1.2?

Bounty Hunter May 8th, 2010 01:27 PM

Re: 2010 Rookie Draft Commentary

I think Brians verbal should still stand. Spiller could still be there at 1.4. I looked at Sheps roster and he could go RB or WR.

I tipped my hand on Tate just for the chance it might create some trading action.

Burt the Butcher May 8th, 2010 01:32 PM

Re: 2010 Rookie Draft Commentary

It was joke Bobby..Bryan's a Bolts fan..he is not letting him go...

pacificscrub May 8th, 2010 04:12 PM

Re: 2010 Rookie Draft Commentary

I also think Mathews is better than Tate. Spiller isn't even in the conversation for best back, so no worries there.

greatshepski May 8th, 2010 04:49 PM

Re: 2010 Rookie Draft Commentary

I was taking Tate all day at 1.3 after that Spiller and Best were a toss up in my mind went with Spiller do to my connections with Buffalo. I hope my boys on my wish list are still there at 1.12 and 2.2.

Bounty Hunter May 8th, 2010 05:00 PM

Re: 2010 Rookie Draft Commentary

After a lot of research Tate was my guy all along. No need for me to look at someone that wouldn't be there. I figured Tate or Best would be there. Spiller is in a bad situation, however Buffalo may get him some blockers down the line and he could be special.

Some internet "experts" compared Best to C. Johnson and Barry Sanders. If they're right I made a big mistake.

pacificscrub May 8th, 2010 05:09 PM

Tate was my #2, so I don't blame you.

A few more reaches like this and I get a stud at 2.4

pacificscrub May 9th, 2010 01:36 PM

Re: 2010 Rookie Draft Commentary

Didn't need yet another wideout and the QBs this year are all reaches anyway. By the lack of comments on 1.7, you all think Gerhart's being behind one of the top 3 RBs in the league is an ok pick but a different backup who fits his team's scheme one pick ahead of that is a reach. Um, ok.

pacificscrub May 9th, 2010 01:37 PM

Re: 2010 Rookie Draft Commentary

BTW - Gunslingers traded for 1.8. Is he actually going to use the pick?

He posted me a PM either last night or early this morning with the offer, and said due to Mother's Day and limited Internet access, he would most likely not be checking back in until later this afternoon or evening...

Bounty Hunter May 9th, 2010 02:40 PM

Re: 2010 Rookie Draft Commentary

The Gerhart pick was a jaw dropper for me. I figured he was a Viking fan. Production wise you have a pretty good idea of what you get. I think you get Chester Taylor type numbers. I expect he will steal goal line carries and game closing carries from AP.

bigmash33 May 9th, 2010 03:18 PM

Re: 2010 Rookie Draft Commentary

As a guy that lives in MN (and follows the purple), I still think the pick was a bit high, but after seeiing how things have gone so far I can't agrue that it's that far off base. There is a decent concern here about the fumbling issues AP had last year...so Gerhart's opportunities could be there.

Scorpions May 9th, 2010 04:17 PM

Re: 2010 Rookie Draft Commentary

Ithink its a good pick, Fanball.com has Dwyer as the #2 ranked going into the draft, so long term a good investment.

pacificscrub May 9th, 2010 04:22 PM

Re: 2010 Rookie Draft Commentary

My previous comments were more about the derogatory comments on our pick. While it's true that neither is anything close to a sure thing, both have talent and with the premium placed on RBs, they're not horrible picks after the top 3-4 players are off the board. We generally have about 15 RBs taken in the first two rounds, so they tend to go faster than people might think. As far as Gerhart goes, he's got talent, but it will take an injury to AP for him to be a weekly starter. A few fumbles by AP will simply mean that Gerhart gets more goalline carries. It doesn't mean that he'll supplant a top 3 RB.

Scorpions May 9th, 2010 04:24 PM

Re: 2010 Rookie Draft Commentary

Thats what i meant, about him not lasting that long in the draft.
RB's certainly go a lot faster in the first two rounds than most.

Oh my..wiping the coffee off my screen that came out my nose....Classic...

I email Jake to let him know he was currently on the clock, and he has to go to #2 on his list as McCoy is now gone....

:ohshit:!!! Did he mean to take Colt? :muhaha:

Damn all these ridiculous picks just gave 1st round value to the top 5 2nd rounders. If only someone had bid on Shockey I would have had a comp and would have still gotten one of the guys I wanted.

With this in mind I will listen to offers for pick 2.01. Not really look to move it as I still have 3 guys from my Top 10 available and Mutts (or someone else) can only get one of them. If there is someone you really want there let me know and maybe we can strike a deal.

Re: 2010 Rookie Draft Commentary

Boys boys boys - Last year there was wr and rbs available all the way to the 3rd round - this year is slim pickins. Plus my research shows the last two years more than half of the first 3 round picks sucked and were left on benchs, traded or released. I am going for peolpe who will score points all 4 of my first picks will play within two years in my mind. Get you DF now or they will NOT be there when you pick in the third round. My needs come first not some maybe RB or QB. See you in the playoffs.

Re: 2010 Rookie Draft Commentary

I must not be readin the same stuff, as i still see a few RB's or WR's who cold push for #1 or #2 roles this year out there, but hey thats just me.

Good to have someone out there making moves to employee his strategy, if it works, then great.

pacificscrub May 10th, 2010 03:00 PM

Re: 2010 Rookie Draft Commentary

Good strategy, but bad pick. Other than Haynesworth for what, one year? No DT has actually been worth starting. McCoy will be an absolute stud at his position for TB, but he's not going to wrack up either tackles or sacks. Hence, not worth starting in SACD.

Oh yeah, I still disagree with your assessment of this year's draft depth. Otherwise, how would all of these great players people keep on saying are falling still be there? Because people saw value at other spots as well. I'm not saying the guys being taken are better than those still available, but just like there will be a guy or two in the mid to late rounds that surprise most, there will most likely be a "reach" in the mid to late 1st that surprises most as well.

We're talking about 3-4 rounds of reaching here.

Re: 2010 Rookie Draft Commentary

Even if you theory is to grab IDPs...and ones that will make an immediate impact. There is a definite top IDP player this year and it isn't McCoy...he would have been a reasonable pick at 1.12...not for me but I could justify that one. This is way out there. DTs have minimal value (there are 3 on rosters right now).

greatshepski May 10th, 2010 03:15 PM

Re: 2010 Rookie Draft Commentary

Good points. But I stll say there will be no 3rd or 4th round choices in this years draft I would trade McCoy for. Keep up the good word. Word to your Mother.

bigmash33 May 10th, 2010 03:26 PM

Re: 2010 Rookie Draft Commentary

I will agree that this draft is thin offensively and a lot of these 3rd, 4th tier WR and RBs could be replaced in a couple years. Also, if loading up on D is your plan that is fine as well. My point is that McCoy is a stretch until the second half of the draft and there are 6-8 IDPs on the board that will have a bigger FANTASY impact than he will.

Dude, unless you get lucky and get an Allen, Cole or Tuck, you are going to score around 130 points for a DECENT DL...even Allen only scored 187 points last year as top scorer...

Correll Buckhalter, Jerricho Cotchery, Nate Burleson, Chester Taylor, Michael Bush, Justin Fargas, Ryan Moats, Kevin Faulk all scored around 130 points...so basically that is who you are getting with pick 1.12 and no better...take a flyer on a WR or RB, who becomes a starter, and you just tripled those points and saved yourself around 3Kcb in cap....hit big on a DL, and you save around 400cb, but probably still can pick these guys up off FA for 100cb
