Scarlet Letter C hangs over Preds HQ

COVID-19 has infected at least 1 member (and likely 3 members) in the Preds facilities.

GM Mike SantaLucia's (GMMS) 25yo son tested positive on Saturday with contract tracing pointing to recreational hockey as the likely source. His spouse and 28yo son also began showing symptoms on Sunday, and despite negative tests on Sunday are going for a 2nd round of tests on Wednesday due to symptoms worsening between yesterday and today. It is believed they may have tested too early for an accurate result.

The entire facility is in lockdown with isolation and quarantine orders in effect, however, GMMS is exempt from quarantine as he was fully vaccinated with doses of the Moderna vaccine on January 4th and February 1st and is showing no signs or symptoms despite close contact with the others. GMMS jokingly stated he looks forward to being another subject to prove the vaccine's work.

In all seriousness, thoughts & prayers appreciated. Not too worried about our younger son, but a bit concerned for my wife and my 28yo son who both have additional risk factors.

Be safe people and please get vaccinated if you are on the eligible list and can somehow find an appointment!

Prayers for you and the family!!!

Went through similar situation last August. Hope you end up with the same good outcome! Son and grandson tested positive with tracing to his Chet Wagner baseball... rest of us tested negative but were quarantined while waiting for results.
Got my 1st dose vaccine last month and 2nd scheduled March 19th.

My wife (Kelly) tested positive today which was expected as her symptoms have worsened since Sunday, but still in the mild-moderate range. Our older son just got tested again a half hour ago. Should know his results in an hour or two. The youngest who brought it into the house from hockey most likely... has the mildest symptoms. Go figure!

I'm still totally asymptomatic and thus far proof that the Moderna vaccine works as I've been exposed to a high viral load in the house for about 8 days now as we believe Jake was probably shedding virus as far back as last Tuesday based on the onset of his first symptom.

I'm getting tested again on Friday, just to see if I am indeed still negative.

#Covid

I'm now the only one in our household that is asymptomatic and NOT positive for Covid. :(

My wife and both sons have now officially tested positive. I'm going for another test on Friday. Thus far the Moderna vaccine is doing its job for me, and I'm really thankful for that, as I have a couple significant risk factors!

Want proof of the high effectiveness of the Moderna vaccine? Not just against casual exposure, but exposure to high viral loads over 12 days?

I have 3 Covid positive family members in the same household, and we've traced the start of it to about 10 days ago based on our son's first symptoms and discussions with county DOH workers. I was exposed to Covid in my house for 5 days before we first tested Jake and learned he was positive (tested a week ago Saturday, his first symptoms were Thursday apparently (which he didn't tell us about), which means he was likely shedding the virus starting Tuesday. At that point, I basically took the stance that since the virus had been in the household for days, and we have forced air HVAC which has been circulating Covid particles throughout the house, that I was either going to contract it myself, or the vaccine was going to protect me.

As such, I didn't bother to separate myself from my wife, who started showing symptoms on day 6 (and later tested positive on day 9). We all wore KN-95 masks the first few days, and they still wear cloth masks, but I've slept maskless in the same room, and same bed as my wife, and still have no symptoms, and have again tested negative on day 11 (also tested negative on day 6). Today is day 12 since Covid likely entered our household, I'm still symptom free.

Get the vaccines as soon as you’re able. They’re our ticket out of this pandemic!

Jake has is recovered and back to work.

Josh is dealing with lingering fatigue, headaches, sinus pain, and minor cough.

Kelly has had it the worst, her cough has improved and is far less frequent, headaches unfortunately are frequent. Losing her sense of taste and smell has upset her the most. Sinus pains have been difficult for her as well and are probably related to the loss of taste and smell. Fatigue also remains an issue for her.

I’m still totally asymptomatic which is quite amazing. The Moderna vaccine has worked wonders thus far for me, especially with the high viral load I’ve been exposed to.

Thanks Jim

Kelly is getting better, just not as quick as the boys. That said, she is improving a little each day.

Hey Mike, Been out of the loop for a few weeks - Sorry to hear about your family. Glad to hear they are getting better. - Hopefully fully (or mostly) recovered now.

My wife and I are getting mentally prepared for the vaccine. We've heard varied stories about side affects... But we will eventually bite the bullet and get it done.

Best wishes to the entire Pred's family.
David

Thanks David. Everyone is mostly recovered. My wife had the worst of it, and still has some minor sinus issues and lost of taste and smell (smell is gradually coming back, taste not as much).

As for side effects with the vaccines, don't let them scare you off. The side effects are generally minimal and typically very short term (1-3 days). I know dozens and dozens of people who are now fully vaccinated, some with no side effects, some with really minor side effects for a day or 2, and only 1 I can think of who experienced side effects for around 3 days. Her case was a major outlier, and likely had a lot to do with the antibodies she still had in her system from contracting Covid months earlier.

BTW, a nurse on my staff who is fully vaccinated, is now going through a similar experience as I did. Her husband and son are Covid positive (with hockey again the likely source). Like me, she hasn't experienced any symptoms despite being exposed to high viral loads.

The Moderna and Pfizer vaccines are outstanding. I strongly recommend that everyone get them as soon as you're eligible. Good luck!
