2007 RFA match/decline stats

Avengers and I were talking about the impact of the new RFA compensation scheme (man, I love having a co-worker in this league; lunch just got WAY more fun!)

I can see there being more incentive to match (an individual guy is no longer worth a 1st round pick) AND more incentive to decline (if you want a 1st round pick, you have to decline at least 2 players).

I thought it would be interesting to compile some 2007 stats to compare to once the 2008 RFA period is over.

2007 Matching of 1st/2nd level tenders:

QBs: 67% matched (Brady, Bulger; not Manning)

RBs: 56% matched (Westbrook, James, Taylor, R. Johnson, Jones; not Portis, LT, Alexander, Parker)

WRs: 71% matched (Holt, C. Johnson, Harrison, Housh, D. Jackson; not Wayne, Ward; Moss was not bid on at all, so I didn't count him)

TEs: 25% matched (Gonzo; not Shockey, Gates, Heap)

I think there could be a lot more predetermined decision to match or delcine guys, considering you need more guys to get a 1st round comp. I think people may be going in deciding they are either matching guys virtually no matter what, or they are going to decide they are hoping to get rid of guys. That, or, ideally, the comp is just not as big of a factor in the decision process, which would probably mean we got it right finally.

That is a great point!

I think it will be interesting if you spot that someone is tending to NOT match their RFA's in order to get picks. There could be some really shrewd bidding using this point system!
