TS players with 3+ years

Just so everyone is aware, this will be our first year where some of your TS players will enter their 4th year of NFL play(those taken in 2005 draft). Those players do not qualify for TS status and will automatically be cut if not activated. So you must have cap space to accomodate them if you do not cut them. Before tonight midnight, you can also cut them without penalty; as long as they were never activated to Active squad. If they were ever activated, then you will access a soft cap penatly before midnight tonight. After midnight, you will access a hard cap hit.

Burt, this rule does not apply to Practice Squad players. The purpose of the practice squad was specifically to have a spot for later rounds picks that you can wait their full contract on.

Only the Taxi Squad has the first three year limit.

Reread the rules, and that looks to be the case. I'll edit and change my posting to reflect that only TS players are affected. Thanks Brian.

Okay, just so I am clear I intended to activiate Aaron Rodgers after the RFA period (when I would have more cap room) but based on the 2007 numbers I don't have the space. Are you saying I have to cut someone now (who will be a FA tomorrow) to clear the extra money? Please let me know as I don't want to lose Rodgers but would not want to take a meaningless cap hit if I did not have to. Thanks!

How does Frenzy handle this? Technically, they don't enter their 4th contract year until April 1. So I would say they move to active on April 1. Thus, you would need to cut them on March 31 to avoid a cap hit. The rules aren't specific, and that's my take though, so unless anyone objects and can come up with legitimate reason, then we'll go that way. I think this may be why Preds assumed those players are automatically move to active on April 1st, since that makes the most sense.

They move up automatically becase they lose their TS eligibility but still have active years on their contract. If their contracts expire it's a moot point, but if the contract has another year or 2 to go, it just can't go poof April 1st because the player loses their TS eligibility.

So the move is done April 1st, thus the new year cap applies, correct? That would make the most sense.

IMO yes.

It looks like the Frenzy are going to automatically promote those players on the TS whose contracts enter their 4th year on April 1st. We will adopt the same method here in SAC'D. Since this is the first year this is an issue, we will be somewhat lax, and give everyone a few days leeway to cut the players they don't want to have on their active roster without penalty. Thus, the salaries will not apply until April 1, so no cap worries.
