Wranglers in Cap Violation
Ben,
Your reneg of Palmer puts you over the salary cap. Also your FA signing of Diles adds to it. According to the rules, you have 24 hours after trade is approved to get into compliance. Thus, unless my calculations are wrong, and we synched up the App with the Webiste early this week, you are 573cb over the 20,000 limit and need to make further cuts. Don't forget about the penalty for cutting players with multi year contracts (20% of first year, 10% of each subsequent year's salary, which includes the 10% yearly raise). If you don't get back under the cap by this time, you will lose Diles and the trade will be reversed and further penalties will be assessed. |
Re: Wranglers in Cap Violation
OK, I reread the rules, and you only had the 24 hour review period to fix this. So the trade is voided and Ben gets the normal cap release penatly on both players. Damn, what a mess. I need to go back and see if this has happened before and see what the ruling was. This is my interpretation of the rule, but it's not so cut and dry with trades involving players with multi year deals.

Re: Wranglers in Cap Violation
I have reversed this trade. Still need to update Palmers contract to what it was prior to trade. Also still need to assess penalties to Wranglers.

Re: Wranglers in Cap Violation
Penalties will be based on Palmers contract before the reneg, since it was the trade itself that put Wranglers over the cap.
Penalty for Palmer = 474 Penalty for Driver = 140 Total penalty = 614 |
Re: Wranglers in Cap Violation
I was on vacation in Destin and had no access to a computer to see this. Apologies. Not trying to be an idiot.

Rather than a 24 hour window and then reversal of the trade (which can totally screw the innocent party who's roster was in compliance the entire time), we changed it to rosters having to be in compliance at the time of the trade or it simply never happened. This puts the impetus on BOTH teams to double-check BOTH rosters for compliance. Then nobody can complain if the trade is voided for non-compliance. |
Re: Wranglers in Cap Violation
So would the trade partners just list their additional roster moves to get into compliance at the time the trade was announced? Makes sense.

Re: Wranglers in Cap Violation
I guess I am not sure what you are saying. The trade put Wranglers over the salary cap. It is both teams responsibility to have their teams rosters in order before making the trade. The 24 hour window is technically the Rules Committees window to reverse the trade. I don't think anyone makes the trade thinking they can wing it and figure out how to get compliant in 24 hours...I just think this was a mistake on Ben's part, either not understanding what made him go over the cap, or just not keeping good track of his team.
Regardless, according to our rules, there is going to be a 24 hour window from the announcement of the trade to the time I actually submit the transaction on the website. |
