Yet another rules clarification

The rules state that Supplemental Draft picks are developmental squad eligible. I interpreted this to mean that since we gave up a 2011 5th round pick, that we could place Unga on our PS and count it toward one of our two 2011 PS placements (we're already placing two guys on the PS from the 2010 draft). Do the other SACD owners agree with this interpretation? Burt asked me to post this since the rules are not specific on this particular scenario.

I would say, if your giving up a draft pick next year for this, then i see thi scountign as one of your PS players for next year, and as long as you only now get one PS assingment for next year, then i'm good with that.

I'd be game with that.

Re: Yet another rules clarification

I would have to STRONGLY disagree..

I am okay with that player going on the PS squad (since it was a 5th round pick .. even if it was a future pick), however, I don't see why that would trump the rule about ONLY placing 2 5th or 6th round picks on the PS for THIS draft!

The PS rules seem crystal clear about that:

"Players can only be placed on the Practice Squad from the annual rookie draft, and only 5th and 6th round selections are eligible for the Practice Squad. Only two players per team can be placed on the Practice Squad each year, so if a team has acquired more than two 5th and 6th round picks through compensation or trade, only two such picks would be eligible for the Practice Squad."

I agree with Geeks.

The pick is actually for this year. You're just giving up next year's draft pick to make the pick this year.

The rule does need to be edited. Maybe something like:

"Players can only be placed on the Practice Squad from the annual rookie draft and supplemental draft. Only 5th and 6th round selections are eligible for the Practice Squad. Only two players per team can be placed on the Practice Squad each year, so if a team has acquired more than two 5th and 6th round picks (including RFA compensation, supplemental picks and trades), only two such picks would be eligible for the Practice Squad."

I agree with this. Basically, you are trading your 2011 5th rd pick for an extra 2010 pick.

Re: Yet another rules clarification

ok, then if we do that, then if he somehow obatains another 5th round pick, then he still has both PS spots available for next years draft.

And, this definately needs to be in a rules update, as per it is written, you could easily argue either way on this one.

As much as it pains me to do it, I agree with THE GEEKS as well. And I feel the rule does need to be updated as well.

Re: Yet another rules clarification

I guess I would have to agree with majority here...after re-reading the rule, the intent of it seems to be to only allow 2 PS assignments per year. I like Patricks suggestion for rewording it to include supplemental picks.

As this was first supplemental draft in SAC'd history, I am willing to let Clowns take back their bid, and put Unga into FA pool, as theirs was the only bid made.

Sorry for the misunderstanding. Should have clarified with the commish before bidding. I will go ahead and withdraw the bid and will check beforehand next time.
