Preds and Burners swap picks, Burners move back into the first round at 1.13

The Burners jump back into the first round acquiring the Predators 2013 1.13 selection in exchange for the Burners 2013 2.4 + conditional 3rd(s).

The conditions are as follows. Burners and Preds will privately advise each other after the trade is completed who they are targeting with the 1.13 and 2.4 picks. If Preds target is still there at 2.4, then Preds will receive the Burners 2013 3.9 selection as well as the option to swap 2014 natural 3rd round picks. If Preds guy is gone at 2.4, then Preds will receive the Burners 2013 3.1 and no options.

John to confirm.

Another brain busting trade involving Burners...love the way you think John...

Mike wasn't going to do the trade without some "outside the box" thinking.

Robert Woods was my 2.4 targeted player, thus Burners keeps his 2013 3.1 and Preds gets Burners 3.09 and an option to swap natural 3rds in 2014 as the conditional portion of this deal.

Mike,

After reviewing this trade it appears that I traded away my 2014 natural 3rd to Jim for
RB MIngram...how about we negotiate how to resolve this during this "down time".

Re: Preds and Burners swap picks, Burners move back into the first round at 1.13

A couple of obvious options would be sub Ingram for my natural 3rd and you would pick between your 3.12 or Ingram (and his contract). Another would be if I don't have my natural 3rd then the deal defaults to next best picks which would be 2nds...
Another choice could be me sending you someone from my current roster to compensate you for losing the ability to move up from your 3.12 to my 3.08 (now Jim's selection).

Bottom Line: you are the party shorted so you need to be happy with the compensation...

Re: Preds and Burners swap picks, Burners move back into the first round at 1.13

And the really bad conclusion would have my natural 3rd get bumped to my next best natural pick which would be my natural 2nd which would mean that by my own trade offer wording you would have to chose which you would rather have...the 2.08 selection or the 3.12 pick.

I think the only solution is to strip Mike of his championship because of the invalid trade.

Re: Preds and Burners swap picks, Burners move back into the first round at 1.13

Uh oh...this is getting WORSE!!!

Burners gives 2.12 + their natural 2nd in 2014
THE Mighty Chunsks gives 1.14 + their natural 3rd in 2014.

Apparantly I don't have my natural 2nd either so if my natural pick defaults to next best natural draft pick then it becomes my 1st!!!

Now Mikes difficult choice is the 3.12 or the 1.08!!! Tough decision, huh???

Re: Preds and Burners swap picks, Burners move back into the first round at 1.13

I probably could have argued that Burts natural 3rd would be my next best option for my natural 3rd however he finished ahead of me by making the final game and his 3.11 pick is in the wrong directon.
Thank God I have my signature line!!! LAME definately comes to mind.

Re: Preds and Burners swap picks, Burners move back into the first round at 1.13

And the final nail in the coffin...

The OPIHI send RB Mark Ingram to the Burners in exchange for their 2014 3rd round pick (Burner assigned selection; not comp pick or aquired pick)

I can't sub Burts natural 3rd for mine as a result of my wording in Ingram trade.

Re: Preds and Burners swap picks, Burners move back into the first round at 1.13

So I believe Burner picks in 2014 draft are: 3.11, 3.12, 4.08 + any RFA compensation.

I am a CLEVER FELLOW !!!

Re: Preds and Burners swap picks, Burners move back into the first round at 1.13

I don't think giving Mike another 1st round pick is a fair trade... no matter WHAT the wording of your trade said back then. It should be reviewed and made fair.

Maybe true, but he shouldn't get a competitive advantage over the rest of us because of it.

Re: Preds and Burners swap picks, Burners move back into the first round at 1.13

Taking John's highest pick (1.08) would be ridiculously unfair and isn't an option. We'll figure something out. We're talking a 4 slot jump in the 3rd. It's not a lot of value.

John what picks do you have for 2014?

I have 1.12, 3.12, & 4.12 I believe. My 2.12 was sent to Pat in the Brandon Marshall trade.

Preds January 10th, 2014 09:48 PM

Re: Preds and Burners swap picks, Burners move back into the first round at 1.13

John,

How about this.

We swap your 4.08 for my 4.12, and I also receive the option to swap any RFA compensation pick within the same round if applicable (whether natural or acquired by trade). i.e. 1.1x for 1.1x, 2.1x for 2.1x, 3.1x for 3.1x, or 4.1x for 4.1x

It gives me a guaranteed bump in rd 4 and a potential carrot with RFA comps (which will likely be only a swap of a couple slots at most since RFA comps are at the end of each round), not to mention that if we don't have comps in the same round (or at all) this clause never comes into effect.

How's that for creativity? :)

Re: Preds and Burners swap picks, Burners move back into the first round at 1.13

...so in conclusion, 2014 Frenzy Draft the Burners have:

1.08,3.11,4.12 + modified RFA compensation.

Traded 2.08 to Chunks, traded 3.08 to Opihi, traded 4.08 to Preds
and any RFA compensated round awards to Burners shared with Preds gives Mike the earlier of our 2 picks and me the latter.

As a result of this lesson I am including a square on my team periodic reviews which will include the status of the following years draft picks so I won't try to make trade offers I can't cover.
