Has anyone given Mike a call on this one?

I thought he had lined-up someone to call him (can't remember who). However, as of right now I think it may be a moot point as the 72 hours have passed...

It's 72 hours from the time the bid is won, so Mike has until 8 AM on the 22nd.

Whoops! Sorry about that. I get the time frames confused (as to when they start and stop). Anyhow you are correct that he has some time. Thanks!

Jim called me yesterday, just got net access today for the first time in 6 days, so I'm catching up and debating what I want to do here.

Still debating this. I'm seriously leaning towards declining and going with Eli for 2006.

It's kinda interesting that if I decline it'll put the Swords in a cap crunch with them exceeding the cap by 1301 or so. You ready for me to start your 24 hour clock to get under Pat?

Still debating things, but Eli is looking more and more like the Predators starter in 2006. If by chance the timer expires before I make an official announcement on parting ways with Peyton, you can consider that intentional. I may just drag out the decline to be a PITA. LOL

Re: QB Peyton Manning Colts - SOLD for 1575 to Swords - MATCH PENDING

I wish I knew the fate of Peyton’s favorite WR before having to decide on matching him, but alas it appears I may have over estimated the RFA market for Marvin Harrison and tendered him too high.

I knew going in I’d likely only be able to keep 1 of Peyton or Marvin. I was leaning towards Peyton, but it was close to 50/50. What really is the difference maker is that Peyton is truly unreliable down the stretch in the playoffs when he’s needed most (just as in real life). Fortunately, we were carried to the title last year on the young arm of David Garrard, who filled in admirably for the absent Peyton in the championship game and one us our 2nd title. Too bad we were unable to retain him longer since he was a post-season signing.

Instead we’ll turn to another stellar young QB, and he just happens to be a Manning as well! Eli finished as the Frenzy’s 4th best QB, just 8 points behind his older brother. And he comes over 900 cb’s cheaper. He’s more of a risk for sure, but I’m willing to role the dice and take the comp on Peyton, giving me an unprecedented 4 1st round picks!

Thus, the Predators organization thanks Peyton for getting us to the playoffs, but bids a fond adieu by officially DECLINING TO MATCH the 1575 cb contract offer of the Swords. This puts the Swords over 1300 cb’s OVER the cap, with 24 hours to get under. I’m kinda curious to see what tricks Pat has up his sleeves to do so (read as Who has he suckered into a deal to clear cap? ;) ).

Seriously, good luck with Peyton, Pat. You have a talent laden roster, and he should fit in well for you. Don’t let your homerism blind you, however, as in fantasy just as in real life, Peyton disappears when you need him most. He just can’t be counted on to carry you all the way, part if the way, for sure, but you better have someone to replace him with down the stretch as he’ll never win a title as a starter (real or otherwise)!

Good luck!<O:p</O:p

4 1st round picks? Yeah, the system ain't broken.

And wow, Eli goes from way overpaid and not worhty to be on your active roster to the new future of the franchise. Things change fast around here.

I wanted to keep Peyton, just didn't work out. Peyton is totally 1st rd comp worthy, so is LT. Marvin on the other hand, looks like I over tendered, but I'll keep him another year at that price.

As for Eli, he's now all I've got, hell, we've got to show confidence in the kid now and put some faith in last years numbers (truth be told, I am NOT a big fan however).

Yes, 1 via the Ricky Williams trade (1.8), my own (1.12), and 2 comps at 1.14 and 1.15 (LT and Manning) = 4 of the 1st 15 picks! :)
