Re: RB Marshawn Lynch, SEA - *** SOLD *** to Opihi (2550), pending Preds decision
I really was thrown off when Jim bid on Lynch just hours before the end of the RFA period. He didn't bail me out. At that point I wanted Lynch to sell at tender. Had that happened, he would have been on my roster for the season.
I had options that weren't very painful to make space for a K and D.
That said, since Jim bid him to a point where I had to make a cut now, I was fine with letting him go and taking the 2nd round comp and replacing Lynch's cap dollars with a top tier WR (whether it be AJ or a UFA). There will be some good UFA values, there always are, so either scenario was fine by me.
As it stands, with AJ joining my WR's, I now have by far the Frenzy's deepest WR core (4 of the top 12 from 2013 and Emmanuel Sanders at WR5 now catching the rock from Peyton in Denver). I value receivers much higher than RB's, and my cap and team composition reflects that.
I'm happy with what the Preds will be fielding for 2014 to defend our title. Aside from the Frenzy's best WR core, we also have a top 5 QB (Stafford), a top tier TE (Witten), a young top 5 RB1 (Lacy) and some vets with gas still in the tank with Gore (11th in 2013) and Freddy Jackson (12th) to back him up. We also have RB depth with Shane Vereen as a Wild Card and Joique Bell available off the PS should injuries or poor production require further RB depth.
The Preds will not be an easy W in 2014 unless we get decimated by injuries.
Beware, we're prepared to repeat!
