I think the comp points allows for more movement of players...most of us might not consider letting a top tier player go if we received no other compensation. So I guess it all boils down to what is the intention of an adjustment to the rule, and what could be effect of adjustment in the long run to the health of the league.
I kind of like the movement of players. Losing a top tier player is not usually going to be replaced by the points you get for that one player...you need to lose multiple to get a shot at 1st round pick, which is still a crap shoot in most cases.
