Actually I'll correct myself... here are the facts:
2006 - still to early to call, but if the standings held, 8-6 Jersey would be left out over the 7-7 Freedom. Also, the 9-5 Insects are seeded 4th behind the East and Central Division winners, neither of which can finish better than 8-6.
2005 - Top 4 teams were the division winners and the wildcard. Also the 10-4 Preds were seeded 4th over the 9-5 Mutts and 9-5 Dodgers.
2004 - The 3rd division winner was 8-6, as were 2 other teams, not sure how the tiebreakers would have shaken out. Also the 10-4 Mutts were seeded 4th over the 8-6 Dodgers and 9-5 Preds.
2003 - The Undead were left out at 9-5 while the Swords were in at 8-6 as winners of the Central. Also the 9-5 Preds were seeded 4th while the 8-6 Swords were seeded 3rd.
2002 - still had the 6 team format

The glaring statistic here is that the 4th seeded wild card team should have been seeded 2nd for the past 3 years in a row (counting this year), and 3rd the year before that.
That's what I think we need to fix. Give the 1 seed home field vs. the 4 seed and guarentee a playoff berth to the division winners, but seed the teams based on overall record. (meaning the wild card could earn the 2 seed and home field for their 1st game, which would have happened each of the past 3 years).
