Burt's correct you can reneg more than 2 years if you hold the rights to the player BUT they can only receive the 300/10% raise NOT the 150/5%.

However there is no advantage to renegotiating a player who has more than 2 years as it would increase the cost of the player unnecessarily. Dale coulld and should hold off the reneging of Royal until after the 2011 season, but before the 2012 season roll over so that he gets another 2 years on a cheaper salary (2010 - 3 yrs, 2011 2 yrs).

That's why you may have never seen a reneg take place with a contract longer than 2 years.
