Hola amigos, been a while since I rapped at ya but things have been pretty crazy in Undead land. I had a job interview, before which I had to cram and learn how to program in Perl (since I had told a teenie little fib on my resume -- but hey, I made the lie into a truth before the interview!), then I went on a weeklong vacation, during which I got word that I'd gotten the job!

So on 3/28 I start as an Electronic Publications Programmer at the University of Michigan library in Ann Arbor. Our office basically is a direct-to-web publisher of academic journals, which is nice because the authors retain far more rights over their work than they would publishing them in traditional print journals (especially the ones that also distribute electronically). I'll be marking up the articles into machine code in TEI (an industrial-grade HTML) and writing Perl software to manipulate and deliver them via the Web. It's a lot more focused than the job I'm leaving at Northwestern, which deals with all aspects of digital reformatting of printed works (and many of those aspects I don't find very interesting).

So now I'm wrapping things up at my current job, and preparing to move, and making social plans to see everyone I know in Chicago (which is a lot of people) before I leave. So I will be checking in when I can, but it won't be as often as I'd like for a while. But I intend to honor the time commitment that comes with the privilege of participating in such a high quality league as the Frenzy.

Afterthought: time to consider another team name change? Since I'll live even farther from Indiana than I do now (about 30 miles)!
