Passes 11-1 Bonuses for 5 years from draft year (as long as player remains on TS/PS or 1st contract)
With the elimination of contract years on the TS/PS that have been voted in, it's possible that contracts could not be assigned until after 3 years on the TS, or 5 years on the PS. Tack on a potential 5 year contract once the player is made active and the "original rookie contract" could extend upwards of 8 years for TS Players and 10 years for PS players.
The question is will rookie bonuses apply throughout years on on the TS or PS in addition to up to 5 years on their first contract? Or should we limit them to a max of the first 5 years from draft year (as long as player remains on TS/PS or 1st contract), including years spent on the TS or PS? The results of this poll WILL apply towards the 2021 season since this poll is started before the draft.

Re: How long should Rookie Bonus Years apply with the changes in year declarations?
I think you need to remove the "(while on 1st contract)" part. As discussed, there is no contract until promoted to active. Maybe something more like, "Max of 1st 5 years from draft year."

Re: How long should Rookie Bonus Years apply with the changes in year declarations?
My concern there is we need to make clear if a draftee is cut bonuses don't apply, thus the first contract wording, however, I see your point as well. I modified the language in the first post and the poll to clarify. Thanks for pointing it out.

Re: How long should Rookie Bonus Years apply with the changes in year declarations?
Not sure I follow. If a draftee is cut and goes unclaimed, they become a FA so no need to consider rookie bonuses at that point. We track this on the app by signifying if a player is a UFA, RFA, draft pick, etc. Rookies subject to bonuses are also in green text. If max reached, that too is signified on app.

Re: How long should Rookie Bonus Years apply with the changes in year declarations?
Right, just wanted to make sure folks don't think this vote would nullify that.

Re: How long should Rookie Bonus Years apply with the changes in year declarations?
I like the max years part. Will make it harder to retain stud players for 8-10 years. And we always have the Max Rookie Bonus to prevent salaries from going to high...

Of course, if you have a stud, it is doubtful you leave him on TS or PS for 3-5 years.

Re: How long should Rookie Bonus Years apply with the changes in year declarations?
Valid point on the Max Rookie Salaries, however, I think 5 years from when they were drafted fits entirely with the original intent of the rule and is 50% or more of most players careers.

Re: How long should Rookie Bonus Years apply with the changes in year declarations?
I will update the rules with the second option. It has a majority, just need a few more votes to complete the poll.
Limit the number of years that the rookie bonus will apply to the first 5 years from draft year - as long as player remains on TS/PS or is under his 1st contract, including years spent on the TS or PS? To be completely honest, I agree that the second option will be easier to track and either method will work. Last edited by A Zombie Pirate I Be; May 30th, 2021 at 08:09 PM. Reason: corrected typo. |
