Shader deals with Philadelphia Freedom
Shader acquires Chris Johnson
The Freedom acquire Ray Rice, a 2009 FIRST-ROUNDER, and Chris Chambers. |

Re: Shader deals with Philadelphia Freedom
Agreed. While I really like CJ and think he will be a weapon, a 2009 first and Rice (not to mention Chambers who should help as a WR 3 this year) made this too rich an offer for me to pass up.

I am a Chris Johnson homer. I think he'll be special. A stud.

Re: Shader deals with Philadelphia Freedom
I don't disagree at all. However, from my perspective Rice was close enough to Johnson (no homer factor) and having spent $5K on McGahee it was too much (with Chambers and 2009 first) to turn you down.

Re: Shader deals with Philadelphia Freedom
I'm not in this league... but I like the deal from Matt's perspective. Yes, Johnson should be a gamer. However, Rice is no slouch! Plus, with the knee injury to McGahee, he should get much more PT sooner than later. Chambers is the #1 WR in SD... and a first round pick in '09 is a great "cherry on top" of this ice cream sundae trade.
Then again... if Shader is a fan, it's always cool to have "your guy" on your squad! |

BTW, not sure if we need to declare the rookie years yet. If so please give Ray-Ray 5 years.

Re: Shader deals with Philadelphia Freedom
You know what they say, A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush.
I personally have no doubts that Johnson is an absolute stud. We're talking HOF material here. You've never seen speed like that on a football field. And since this league is PPR, that just adds to it. Everyone that's seen this kid during the pre-season has been stunned. The Rams players were absolutely amazed, and he broke longs ones on them all week long when they were in town. Can you tell I'm a homer? I think Rice will be a fine RB. I also think losing a 1st rounder next year isn't necessarily a good thing. But I'll give that up to get a sure-fire stud. Chambers is of no concern to me, as I was going to have to cut him because of salary concerns anyway. I mean he is a number 1 receiver, but I couldn't afford him. The Freedom could, so if thats what it took to get the job done, so be it. |

Boy, I hope your assessment is right, because I have him (along with every other Titan RB) in Frenzy.

Re: Shader deals with Philadelphia Freedom
I had these feelings, and did this trade long before I read this article, Popes (I just read the article a couple hours ago) ..But check it out. It is enough to get you excited:
http://dynastyrankings.blogspot.com/...nson-hype.html I'll add in that Johnson had one of the fastest acceleration times in combine history. Add that to his 4.24 speed...wow. I'm pumped. He's one of those players that will kill me in all my leagues or possibly win me a bunch of championships though, as I'm overpaying for him like a madman in all my leagues. |

Re: Shader deals with Philadelphia Freedom
BTW, Freedom, is was good dealing with you. You drive a hard bargain. You never backed down from what you wanted, then slyly threw in the Chambers request at the end. Very good trading, I'd say. I really thought I'd get you with Gonzalez/Cotchery, Chambers and a 1st.

Re: Shader deals with Philadelphia Freedom
Johnson might very well turn out to be a stud (I hope so since I just took him in another league), but everything you said is alarmingly similar to what was being said about Reggie Bush last pre-season. I understand you think this guy's going to be a stud, but you gave up the price equivalent of moving up into one of the top 2 spots in an average rookie draft for someone who is unproven and who has performed mainly against non-starters. Flat out, you gave up too much at this point in the season.

If you could start 3 RB's, perhaps I wouldn't do this deal, as it's potentially taking away two RB's for one. But with this structure, all you need is two stud RB's and then good backups. I feel I just got one, so I'm more than willing to "break the bank". |

Couple that with Reggie Brown being injured and not practicing and Brandon Marshall looking at a 2-3 game suspension I felt I could use another WR#3 (at least in FF terms) who was not too horribly overpriced. Also, with McGahee having the surgery it seemed like having Rice (who while I think Johnson is special I still think could put up equal FF numbers to Johnson each year) was not too big of a drop off. Finally getting your 2009 first rounder I could not keep saying no. I think both players have the ability to be quality contributors and I do think Johnson is the better than Rice but not that much better when all the other pieces of the deal are considered. |

So Johnson also needs to assign years. No need to assign which squad they go on yet though....and techically, the years needed to be assigned before the deal was made by the team trading them. Since they are rookies, I can let it slide this time, as long as Johnson has his years assigned immediatly. Next time, I no be so.

Re: Shader deals with Philadelphia Freedom
Can we get the draft pick icon added for this thread for easier reference when we are pulling together the draft order to 2009? Thanks.
