Default Go Sabres! golfing that is :(

Buffalo's 5-4 win over the Rangers earlier today advanced the Sabres on to the Eastern Conference Finals for the 2nd year in a row. This time, we have home ice, but face a very very good Ottawa Senators. Should make a GREAT series!

Anyhow, I said if they advanced I'd post a pic of the way cool ECF and SCF tix. Hera ya go!

PS Its gonna be a shame to tear the sheets apart to seperate the tickets!

Woulda been nice if my Sabres had gotten the memo to show up for the Eastern Conference Finals. What a disappointment that they missed the bus and failed to show up.

Preds is very sad today.

Sorry about your Sabres Mike.
I saw the highlights from the game 3 loss, thought of you and felt sad.

They seem to be up against a buzzsaw.
That goaltender of yours is something special...if only your boys would
shoot!

Well, better to get crushed now than in the SC finals...right as you began to entertain the thought of being a champion.
I know all about that this year with my Buckeyes.
See 2007 NCAA National Championship games in Football and Basketball. To add some spice, they lost both games to the same school.

It's REALLY hard to live in this city (Buffalo region) is all I can say, the brutal taxes (among the highest in the county), mismanaged government (currently governed by City AND County Control Boards), dwindling population and jobs, and in general overall piss poor econmy here make things hard enough, but when you add in the cursed pro sports franchises it just gets so f'n depressing. The one thing that would give this city some self confidence and improve our moral psyche is a major championship, but instead our teams get to the cusp, and find a way to **** things up. It's very discouraging to throw your heart, emotions, and ridiculous sums of money into them and watch them fail in the manner they have.

1st it was the Bills with their 4 straight Bowl losses, now it's the Sabres with 2 cup losses, and 3 ECF losses, with this past one being a complete and utter embarressment. We can respect losing when a team goes all out and gives 100% (last years Sabres for instance, very proud of that squad), but to mail it in, the way the so-called President Trophy Champions have... it's just downright sad. You have no idea the kind of support this city put out for them, it was unreal, and in return, our players played like prima donnas who were entitled a championship and expected everyone else to roll over for them. They forgot the foundation that they and this city were built on, HARD WORK and ALWAYS GIVING 100%. And that, is why Preds is VERY VERY sad today.

That said, you wouldn't wanted to have seen me on Saturday after Game 2... I've actually gotten past the anger from then!

11 years ago the Atlanta Braves blew a 6-0 lead in game 4 of the World Series which would have put them up on the Yankees 3 games to 1 with 2 of the remaining 3 games in Atl. You probably remember this well being in NY.

I got so upset I puked in a garbage can. :yuk ukeface
Literally.

I lived in NY at the time too, but was a huge Atlanta Fan. So I took crap on a daily basis for weeks when the Yankees completed the 4 game sweep after dropping the first 2 at home.

Since then, my priorities are more in line with where they should be. I don't get so worked up over sports anymore. It's just entertainment to me at this point.

I wonder what the taxes/government status/economy are w/ Opihi in Hawaii? Maybe you should have stayed out there...open up a buffalo wings joint. I'd partner up w/ ya.

< lvoed Hawaii, but damn it's expensive to live there!

If I wasn't lucky to have a solid, well paying job, I'd have left Buffalo years ago. The writing is on the wall though (and decision is pretty much made), another 10 years or so and we'll be heading south. Just waiting for the kids to finish their education and to pay off the house, both of which will occur in the next 7 years.

Cost of living is pretty high here in Hawaii. Economy is rough. Goverment is okay, but the same people keep making the same mistakes/rules/laws, etc.

Gotta love the weather, though! And it's way cool having such a diversity of ethnicities here. Bottom line, it's a pretty special place. There's one wing shop in the town I live in... called "Dirty Lickens" (which is another phrase for beating someone up here in Hawaii! "I'm going to give you dirty lickens!")... I'm sure an authentic shop would do well!

Well, that seals it.

Mike - you bring some good wing sauce recipes. I make killer thick cut homemade french fries. And we can bring some good NY beer that they've probably never had out there...maybe Saranac Black and Tan?

Sounds like a winner. Meet you out there in 7 years.

As for the dirty lickens, I like the sound of that.
I'll have to address the subject with the Mrs. after work.

Shit, wing sauce is REALLY easy. Well for traditional Buffalo wings that is.

Just take some Frank's Red Hot Sauce (has to be Frank's), some butter, some garlic, and maybe a little vinager and your as authentic as authentic gets around here.

FTR, you also MUST deep fry the wings in very hot oil (not baked) to an extra crispy state and shake them in the Sauce while hot. mmm

Meh, I wasn't referring to anybody in particular, just talking in general... a lot of folks outside the area think they're just as good baked, when they don't even come close to the real deal that way.

I'll second the deep fried method...as long as there is NO breading. I hate it when restaurants bread their hot wings. If I wanted breading on my chicken, I'd go to Kentucky Fried Chicken....yeck.

Hmmm....

2 days ago, we're talking Mike off a ledge over the Sabres being down 3-0.

Last night, the Sabres win game 4 on the road to avoid the sweep and extend the series.

This morning, the entire Preds page is decked out in the Maize and Blue of the Buffalo Sabres.

Can anyone say BiPolar Disorder?

Rallytime!

Also happy today because the game 5 netted me an extra G plus I get to go the the game for free!

I can't imagine what'll happen if they push it to a game 7, highly unlikely, but hey, ya never know. I'd give up every dollar I've made selling tix for a Cup win in a heartbeat.

Yup, converted to Sabres colors... get used to it, they're not changing again even if they lose Saturday. :p

And the reason it is schmugly is because these are also the colors of the University of Michigan Wolverines.

(Note the 5 slow defenders in the background...that would be UM)

Nah, the yellows don't match, Sabres "Gold" is really more of a maize as you stated.

It's funny that everyone was wondering what the color change was about at first. When I logged in this evening and saw it my first thought was "Oh, the Sabres must have won a game". Seriously!

That said, it IS ugly. Not as a color scheme for a team, but for a forum color scheme = YUCK.

They played hard the last 2 games, officiating was once again TERRIBLE, but not the reason we lost. Ottawa earned it. Sucks losing in OT, but such is life. It was a fun game to be at, and one day I pray this city will get a Stanley Cup Championship it SO deserves. The fan support has been unreal, and been fun to be a part of (as an example, over 10,000 people were watching / celebrating OUTSIDE the arena in the plaza, with nearly 19,000 inside). Just an incredible environment.

I wish the team would have shown up for games 1-3 as they did in games 4 and 5, Had they, we would have been talking about a completely different series. It's a very disappointing end to a great season, but at least they didn't roll over in games 4 and 5 the way they did games 1-3. That's what had so many, including myself, so angry, we can respect losing when you give it your all, but despise half-hearted efforts. That's what happened games 1-3, they just didn't show up till it was all on the line. Hopefully they'll learn from this.

Oh well, summer is nearly here, I'll avoid hockey till next October. On the bright side, I went to over 20 games free this year (including 6 playoff games), my 8 season tix are already paid for next year ($10,000), and my brother and I each have about $6,700 in our bank accounts to show for the Sabres great season. That said, I'd trade it all for a Stanley Cup Championship. Maybe next year the Sabres will learn from their misgivings and will have the hunger and desire Ottawa showed, the Senators certainly are a worthy Cup champion should they win it all in the coming weeks.

Hey Mike... I feel for you bro.. I was watching the game. Pretty good game, looked like the place was rock'n. I couldn't believe all the people outside the place. It was pretty cool. It got real exciting when Buffalo scored in the last seconds of the 5 on 3 power play to tie the game. It looked like the building was shaking. Although they ended with a couple piss poor PP's. Us people out here in TV land got F'd in the A. The network went to the Preakness instead of showing OT. I guess I am kind of glad, since Buff lost in OT. But, boy was I pissed when it happened. Welp, I am glad you had a good year and made some money on the side.

Hockey is a great sport, but nationally in the USA is a complete afterthought. Buffalo was the only market in the US where the game wasn't switched off at 5pm. For the NHL to lose an overtime game of the Conference Finals to PRERACE coverage of a freakin horse race shows you just how far the league has fallen in the national sportscape (FWIW, the game was apparently switched to the Bull Riding network, aka Versus).

Hell, poker gets better ratings. It's sad that such a great sport has been ruined by overexpansion, atrocious officiating, and pisspoor managemnet and marketing by Commisioner Gary Bettman. What a f'n tool.

Anyhow, props to Ottawa, truly the better team this playoffs. I'm jealous.

BTW, we made more than "some money on the side." I got to know a couple contacts in the ticket office pretty well, and did very well with additional tickets I was able to get (in addition to our 8 ST's). Our sales covered the cost of ST's both this past year and next year, we used over 80 tix for free counting the playoffs, AND cashed out with 6.7k each. In that regard, we're quite happy... but again, I'd trade it all for a Cup win. Oh well.

As for the atmosphere, it was truly special, what a shame we couldn't carry it one more round. the support here was incredible. And yes, despite my dissappointment in the loss, I was among the thousands chanting "Thank You Sabres" after the game before the team left the ice. Buffalo fans really know their sports, and back their teams incredibly, one day we'll get rewarded, hopefully in hockey.

I'm not a hockey fan, but I watched the game at BWs this afternoon. Great game...I was rooting for Buffalo as were a few others in the bar (no Senators fans). Tough loss, but fun game to watch. The hockey I've watched was mainly Detroit, thanks to Soap Box Derby Car (Nate). Maybe I'll eventually become a hockey fan, and if I do my favs will be Buffalo and Detroit. Good luck w/ your boys next year.

Possibly new hockey fan, Patrick

Good luck w/ your boys next year.

Hockey comes across terrible on TV. Attend a game live and you'll be hooked.

I couldn't agree more... I was never a hockey fan until (ok I may have band wagoned) Gretzky came to LA.. I was fortunate enough to work for a company that had quite a few season tickets and was able to sit glass side for quite a few historical games. Gretzky breaking Gordie Howe's scoring record and maybe one of the best games in history(at least most exciting)
Game 6 of the Campbell Conference Finals... Here is a quick overview..

In the Campbell Conference Finals, the Kings were even more of an underdog against the Doug Gilmour-led Toronto Maple Leafs. But with Gretzky at the helm, the Kings eliminated the Leafs in a hard-fought seven-game series that included two overtime games and a Game 6 win for the Kings, who were facing elimination after losing Game 5 in overtime — they trailed the Leafs in the series, 3-2.[11] In Game 6, Toronto scored two third period goals and tied the game at 4-4 at the end of regulation play. But in overtime, Luc Robitaille fed Gretzky a perfect pass and Gretzky scored in overtime to give his team a dramatic 5-4 victory and sending the teams back to Toronto for a Game 7. In the final contest, Gretzky scored a hat trick (three goals) and an assist to lead the Kings to a 5-4 win and a berth in the Stanley Cup Finals for the first time in franchise history.[11][12]

That is when I realized hockey was by far the best spectator sport(live that is). I will never forget the rush of being there. Prior to Gretzky's goal the whole crowd was chanting "Ranford...Ranford..Ranford." (Toronto's Goalie at the time.) The whole building (The Fabulous Forum) which by then was quite run down, was shaking to its core. It literally felt like an earthquake. AWSOME!!!
I have since lost interest in hockey... Probably because I don't get the tickets anymore.. But, really... I think I was just lucky to be part of a great time in hockey history.
Bottom Line... You have to be there to get it..
