RFA bidding
This is being discussed in the Frenzy so Burt asked me to post it here for discussion. I think having RFA's count against your cap makes it almost impossible to improve your team if you have a number of high value RFA's that have been tendered. I know we don't have to tender anyone but once you do it will hamstring a team to not be able to bid on replacement players. Here is the discussion from a few years ago in the Frenzy:
http://www.predsff.com/forums/showthread.php?t=15416 I think once a player of yours is bid on they should no longer count against your cap since at this point you have the ability to decline to match and free up the cap space. The current rules force you to count all your RFA's which essentially limits the number of players you can bid on until one or more of your players sell because it holds you cap space hostage. Not sure if I am clearly explaining my issue with this but I think it greatly hampers a team with high value RFA's. Here is the current Frenzy thread: http://www.predsff.com/forums/showthread.php?t=23267 |

Re: RFA bidding
I agree with Matt. If two other owners get into a bidding war on one of your RFAs, it could last over a week and go well above your price point. At the same time other RFAs that you would like could sell because you can't free up this cap space and join the bidding.

Re: RFA bidding
Since time is running short, how about just putting up a poll Matt?

Re: RFA bidding
Under Thread Tools, Add a poll to this thread.
I went ahead and made is same as what Mike did in Frenzy once a tendering team matches a player, the salary would again count against their cap.

Re: RFA bidding
Do 7 yes votes mean that this passes this year (we can revisit again after we see the impacts in 2014 RFA bidding)?

Re: RFA bidding
OK, so this passes. Once your RFA has been opened for bidding, the salary no longer counts against your cap, unless, when he sells, you decide to match.
Matt, you will need to remember to put this up again next year to see if people want to keep it permanently after this one year experiment.

I made a note to reopen the conversation in early March of 2015. Thanks!

Re: RFA bidding
I'm putting together a new formula in the roster app to account for this so it will be a little easier to determine cap space available. I should have the 2014 app ready and posted by this weekend.

Re: RFA bidding
So am I correct in assuming we went back to 2013 rules since we didn't vote on this again in 2015? Cap money is tied up on existing RFA's until an auction is over and not matched?

Re: RFA bidding
Looks that way. I'd forgotten all about this in SAC'D. I'll have to adjust the roster app tomorrow in order to undo the changes from this rule.
