4 Franchise Player Designation
The franchise player tag could be used by each franchise once per year (unless they already have a franchise player signed to a multiple year contract from a previous year), and a franchise cannot tag a player a franchise player if that player had been tagged the franchise player by that team in a previous year. Each team would have the opportunity to tag a player a franchise player prior to the start of the RFA period. The base salary for the franchise player would be based on the average of the top 5 players at that players position from the previous year. For reference, the 2003 figures of the top 5 players are:
Quarterbacks: 1162 Running Backs: 2502 Wide Receivers: 2104 Tight Ends: 502 Kickers: 189 Defense: 235 These figures would be adjust each off season prior to the Franchise Tag Designation Period and would be based on the previous years’ salaries. Franchise players signed to multiple year contracts would have their salaries increase 20% per year instead of the standard 10%. As stated before, once the contract for the Franchise player expires, that player cannot be designated the franchise player for that franchise again. |

I appreciate the work done in preparing this... but I like the RFA market just fine. The OPIHI have voted against this proposal.

The Dodgers vote no as well, though we are not as strongly opposed as we were before. I still think that with the draft, long contracts, and RFA, we have ample opportunity to mainin talent we want to keep.

Although the concept is cool and NFL like, I feel with RFA teams already have plenty of oppurtunity to keep their players. This rule seems amost redundant. BDSC vote no.

The Mutts voted no for this proposal. I do like the concept, however, and would be open to revisiting the issue in a future off-season.

Yes because it is redundant but adds a nice little twist.

Voted yes if no other reason than I really want to Franchise Mike Vanderjagt who has been by far the best player the Freedom have had.
The above sentence should help convince you that teams like mine (that suck) need help! Please help me!!! |

I voted in favor, I pretty much backed Matt's proposal here from the get go.

Count me in the camp that thinks RFA is sufficient for retaining talent.
