Default 2007 SACD RFA Tenders, Franchise Tags, and Renegotiations

I know we've voted to delay the start of RFA bidding till I return in late August, but I don't see any reason to delay the tendering of RFA's, Franchise Players, and renegotiations prior to the March 31st deadline as stated in the rules.

Where does everyone else stand on this. Do you want everything pushed back until late April, or just the actual bidding process (which is really all we need IMO).

Hmm. I'm torn on this. Requiring the tenders by 3/31, but not starting the bidding for 3+ weeks hurts the tendering team. What if something happens between 3/31 and 4/23? Normally, that risk is shared by the tendering team and the bidding teams. Now it is all on the tendering team. I think if we are moving the bidding back until 4/23, the tenders shouldn't be due until 4/22.

What about Franchise delerations and contract renegotiations?

I'd say that since those are not affected at all by the delay, they should remain due 3/31.

One could easily argue that their choice of franchise tender or contract renegotiation could have changed depending on their RFA declarations. I think if you push the RFA declaration back you have to push back the other 2 as well.

While I don't agree it is a very realistic presumption, I don't have a problem with moving everything back.

Really? I think it's a package deal. If circumstances change over those 3+ weeks, teams may want to franchise a player instead of RFA tagging them, or vice versa. Same goes for a contract reneg, if a siuation changes, a guy you may have RFA tagged may become more or less valuable in a corntract reneg via trade.

Personally, I'm fine with either making all declarations at the end of March, or pushing them all back. Splitting them is the one thing I'd not be in favor of.

You're right. I didn't really think it through, but yes the Franchise tags and RFA tenders are definitely linked.

Delay them all to the 22nd IMO.

Let's move all 3 to April 22nd then. If anyone strongly objects, speak up now....

I didn't want to move the RFA period back but given that we are, we should move the declaration too.

Another date is the last day for cuts to count against the 2006 cap, which is currently 3/31.

Should we push back this date as well?

I really don't care, but I think we should not push it back. If you're going to cut someone I doubt 3 weeks will make a difference as the date is for cap measures so you'd usually cut someone with a large contract. But up to you guys.

The Soft Cap Deadline should also be pushed back IMO. Frank asked me about it, and I think it all plays a part in who you do or don't declare.

An update of the rules is Brian's undertaking. He's still getting to that, somewhere down the line I'm sure!
