Fury open up the CDL Rookie Draft by keeping up with the Joneses

With the 1.01 selection in the 2004 CDL Rookie Draft, Zeus’ Fury are proud to select RB Kevin Jones of the Detroit Lions.

Jones will have both an immediate and long-term impact as the latest member of the Fury. As an organization we view him as the most complete back in the draft. Kevin was our target even before the NFL draft when we first made the decision to aggressively move up to 1.01. His selection by the Lions, a team with an improving offensive line and a young corps of potentially elite WR’s in Roy Williams and Charles Rogers, as well as a young QB like Joey Harrington excites us. We feel Jones will round out what could become a very good young and emerging offense. We are not concerned about a RBBC situation, as none of the other backs on the roster have anywhere near the talent that Kevin brings to the table.

We considered dropping a slot to the 1.02 and taking Tatum Bell after he landed in what appears to be a very good situation in Denver, but in the end we felt that Jones was far and away the best back in this class and therefore made the easy decision to keep the pick and take the player we targeted all along.

The depth of this draft excites us, and we look forward to seeing who falls to us with our 1.10 pick.
