Default CDL NEWS: Fury send Green westward for 3 players & 3 picks

inline image inline imageFury Shake up the CDL Draft

For the second year in a row, Preds traded away one of his top 2 RB's off his championship runner up sqaud from the prior year to move significantly up in the rookie draft. Last year, Priest Holmes was dealt away due to cap issues for a cluster of picks and players, with the key pick resulting in RB Willis McGahee. It just so happened that Holmes came back to haunt Preds in the bowl as Skelly snagged the title out of Preds finger tips for the 2nd year in a row.

This year, Preds shook up his Zeus' Fury squad by trading away stud RB Ahman Green for a core of younger and cheaper players... oh and a couple of 2004 1st round draft picks (sound familiar)?

inline imageHeading east to the Fury are 2004 rookie picks 1.4 and 1.10, as well as Dr J's 2005 2nd round pick. Also heading to the Fury will be Bears RB Thomas Jones (2 years, 4.0 mil), Bears WR Marty Booker (3 years, 5.7 mil) and 49ers WR Brandon Lloyd (4 years 2.0 mil)... Lloyd and the 1.4 selection were the keys to making this deal happen.

The Fury are suddenly major players in the 2004 rookie draft, being the only team to hold 3 picks in the 1st round of the draft. Preds has assembled picks 1.4, 1.10, and 1.11. Don't be surprised if the Fury consider packaging up their 1.4 and 1.11 picks to move up a couple spots in the draft.

Moving Green also opened up about 42 million of the Fury's cap, potentially making them major players in the upcoming UFA period.

inline image Ahman Green and his 1 year 52.0 million dollar contract was sent off to DR J's as yet unnamed team. Accompanying Green on the trip will be Packers backup RB Tony Fisher (1 year, 2.0 mil) and Preds 2005 2nd round draft pick. Dr J paid what many may consider a stiff price in landing his 1st premier player, a player who will likely be a key to his turn-around efforts as he try's to emerge from the back of the pack to the front. Will Ahman Green be enough to turn Dr J's squad around from pretender to contender like Holmes did for Skelly a year ago?
