Playoff Seeds
Can someone help me out and correct me if I'm wrong?
So the Gunslingers have the #1 seed and a bye. #2 (and the other bye) goes to the Floyds because they beat the Geeks in the only head to head matchup...and Geeks are #3 How does the #4-6 work? I am tied with the Attack and Bloodsuckers. The Bloodsuckers beat the Attack both times they played and I beat the Bloodsuckers in our only matchup. However, I lost to the Attack in our only matchup. Does it go to the next tiebreaker - division record? Just curious how this works. |

Here's what was decided when we had 4 playoff teams: http://www.predsff.com/forums/showthread.php?t=10502
Not sure how this applies to 6 team playoffs now....but my guess is that #2-#6 are seeded based on total points. |

we may need to revisit the playoff seeding now that we have 6 teams
But based on the newer seeding rules I interpret it as: Top two of three division winners receive 1 and 2 seeds and 1st round bye. Third division winner gets 3 seed. Seeds 4-6 based on total points (as opposed to records > h2h > total points for determining the wildcard playoff teams) |

Patrick, I'll have to reread the rule we passed, but I beleive we are basing seedings on record alone, Division winners do not get precedence?
This is what I have (based on the rules, #1 determining factor is overall record against all teams tied....thus Bloodsuckers are 2-1, Mashers are 1-1 and Valencia is 1-2, and so that will be seeding order) 1. Glenside Gunslingers 12-2 - bye round 1 2. Falcon Floyds 10-4 (beat Geeks H2H) - bye round 1 3. Woodland Park Pencil Neek Geeks 10-4 4. Bay Area Bloodsuckers 8-6 (H2H 2-1) 5. Minnesota Mashers 8-6 (H2H 1-1) 6. Valencia Attack 8-6 (H2H 1-2)

Yep, just reread the wording of the rule that passed (Option #2) and the explanation by Preds...seeding is based on record alone. So my seedings listed above should be correct.

I guess my only gripe with head to head is that I only got to play 2 h2h games where the other two teams that I'm tied with had 3 games. So, I have the same record as the bloodsuckers and beat them...but I get the lower seed? Seems odd.

Understood...do you have a suggestion? Scorpions looked it up on how NFL does it, and they use overall record between all the team that are tied. I guess Valencia could say the same about you being seeded above him? This falls in line with the rules, stating the tie-breaker is based on overall H2H record.
But hey, I am willing to listen to arguments against, and am willing to change it to what others think it should be based on the rule interpretation.... Anyone else have ideas on how it should be? The rules state this: The Leagues tie-breaking system for play-off qualification and seeding is as follows: 1. Head-to-head record 2. Division Record (between teams from the same division) 3. Total Overall Points 4. Coin Toss

I think the way we are doing it is the way to go (essentially ties are broken by head to head winning percentage).

I am fine keeping it as it is. It is the best and most straight forward way to figure it out. I just didn't understand how the head to head worked if we didn't play the same number of games.

I would prefer to see the division winners take the top 3 seeds

Division winners - #1-3 based on record, WC #4-6 based on record. Otherwise no point in having divisions.

We can certainly revisit the rule after the season. Since half the league are composed of new owners since the rule was passed, the vote may go a different way. But this year it will be the way the rule is written. We can also discuss a change in seeding after this year if you all would like.
