Pitbulls and Hill swing a deal

Cardinals DL Betrand Berry and the Bloodsuckers 2006 4th rd pick are sent to Jawbone Hill in exchange for the Hill's 2006 3rd round pick.

Edited to Add: Berry will be assigned 2 contract years.

Not challenging at all, just wondering - can players be traded before contract years are assigned?
