Wow. Interesting move since he's move to St. Louis to be the #3, and could step in for Bruce at any minute.

1500 for a #3 WR? Makes sense to me to let him go....

If my calculations are correct, this is a $145 penalty, not 138....

Wait, is 138 the penalty or the salary? OK, if it is the penalty, then it makes sense. I thought that was the salary.

Yah we gotta cut the newbie some slack...he tried to get it straight...Bryan is a bit more savy than to let Bennett go if his salary were 138...even starting the year as a #3 WR....

Titans Re: Cut Drew Bennett, WR Ten (2yrs/138)

Thanks for sticking up for me...I think. His salary is 1375, so my understanding is under the soft cap, his penalty is 138 (if I should have put his salary, I'll correct that) for 2006 and another 138 for 2007. Do I have it right or do I need tutoring in the rules?

He still had a 2 year contract, up until the Soft Cap period ends, when 2006 salary is removed. You have to add up both years, multiply by 10%, and divide that amount by half. Half the penalty is applied to your 2006 salary cap, the other half to 2007 cap. So add up 2006 salary (1375) and 2007 salary (1513) gets 2888... you get the jist...

FYI, 20% for the current year, 10% for each year thereafter.

Ok. According to the rules: Players released during the SOFT CAP period will have their cap penalty divided equally between the current season and the next season.

I interpret that to mean (in my case): 2006 salary of 1375 * .2 = 275 plus 2007 salary of 1513 * .1 = 151. 275+151=426 divided by 2 = 213 cap hit in 2006 and 213 cap hit in 2007. Does this jibe with the rules (not that I was even in the ballpark with my first posting)?

Yah, what do I know...I guess the 2006 app will tell you what total cap hit is. You just need to divide by number of years left on contract at the time....so yes, you are correct, it will be 213.

Good, because otherwise I might have been inviolation of the salary cap and that would be a bad thing...at least for me.
