Confired.

Brett, I only have one third round pick at this point, so I am trading you my third round pick. I assume that is what you meant, and not that if I acquire a higher third round pick at some point that you would get that one instead, right?

Yes... That is what I meant.. I didn't have time to look up draft picks.
Thanks.

Brian, your deal with Brett was confirmed at 10:28pm on the 28th. This deal put you over the cap by a whopping 777 cb's. More than 24 hours have passed without you making a move to get under. I know you tried to post a deal with Matt that would put you under, but it hasn't been confirmed, and a deal in principle is not a deal (trust me, I had a deal in principle with Popes and he backed out).

I know you knew you had an issue without Matt's confirmation, thus I thought you would do something else to get under. Now we have to go look up the rulebook to see how the penalties are assesed in a trade situation.

Ugh.

Shit. Neither Brett nor Brian are gonna be happy campers here. According to the rules, we have to reverse this deal, Brian also gets hit with cap penalties.

Quote:
If a team is over any of the caps after 24 hours of a trade confirmation, and corrective action has not been posted, the Rules Committee will veto the trade, send the players back to their original teams, AND impose the corresponding salary cap penalties. The players will not be released into free agency, but the offending team(s) salary cap will be punished.

OMG this is gonna be ugly, Brett made a cut of Jacoby Jones to clear space for Avant. Jim prompty scooped him up on waivers.

I don't know what to do here. The rules are fairly clear that the trade gets reversed, but what about the other moves Brett made. It wasn't his fault Brian failed to get under. I think we also have to reverse the Jacoby Jones cut and any cuts associated with it.

SHIT

Brian also gets hit with a 20% cap penalty on the player which put him over, which would be Steven Jackson and his 1406 cb salary. Thus Brians cap penalty will be 282 cbs. Ugh.

This sucks. Thanks Matt for coming to the site this morning and not responding. Just f'n great.

Whatever the penalties are, they are. I had zero room before the trade, so just let me know how much I need to cut.

This blows, Brett loses here too, but we addressed it pretty clearly in the rules.

Aarghh.

After the Roster Penalties, you're 285 over the cap (I think the penalty for cutting the Bills D is why you're more than 282 over).

This blows.

I can't even get any sleep over this... Thank God I am heading out to do some lobster fishing(trapping... what ever you want to call it). This is BS and I think the penalty does not fit the crime here.
I have worked all week on this trade and tabled other offers because of it.
Instead of trading S.Jackson, I had to put him on I/R, which hurts his trade value for the next month. I also am in trouble in contract years, because I had counted on moving some in the trade.
This takes away alot of leverage I had for future trades. How do you compensate for this? Don't worry... The question is rhetorical.. I am just trying to make a point.
Very Frustrated,
Late

Brian, I apologize but I thought I sent you a PM yesterday morning when I saw your PM asking me to post the deal from Friday afternoon. If you are still interested I will accept Monday morning but I can't until I am able to review my roster and determine other things that I would need to do.

Sorry for any confusion.

No, I never got that PM, and you never mentioned in our discusions that you couldn't do anything until Monday. Otherwise I could have taken that into account.

With Caddy's season ending injury, the reversal of this deal may end up saving your season Brian.

As a Caddy fan, I was pretty bummed when I saw the play.

Well, to make things right I had already offered the same deal to Brett, as it was all I could do.

The balls in his court at the moment.

For the record, after mulling this over for the weekend, I think it is pretty much bullshit that I take a 280+ cap hit for this when there are various teams who shall remain nameless, making rediculous messes of their rosters, making stupid lineup decisions on a weekly basis, etc etc, and there are no reprocusions to the imbalance they are causing to the competitive balance for the league. Yet those teams trying to compete, make their teams better, stay active, but have a miscommunication get hit with a roster cripling penalty. Yeah, that's real f'n fair.

First off, you're opening pandoras box with your statement about mismanagement by other teams. Everybody has their own opinion on how to run their squad, some more right than others. Additionally teams may be in different build cycles. Some folks are still in the learning process for building within the cap system as well. FTR, to encourage competetive lineups, last year I proposed we put in place a lottery system for the #1 pick, but got shot down. I don't know the right answer, but I won't question the intentions of anyone in this league. I think every single owner is doing the best with what they have.

As to your cap penalty, you knew all day on Saturday that you had an issue, and time was against you. You could have avoided the cap hit entirely by making cuts in lieu of the deal with Matt that never materialized. I'll also add that the rule was crystal clear for this situation, and was applied appropriately.

I'm sure you're frustrated, but you have to take some of the blame in this situation.

I'm not saying "hey reverse the penalty." It is what it is. I'm just saying the penalty far exceeds the crime. But, I do want to point out that time and time again, both in this league and in SAC'D we've gone soft on penalties, given various teams leeway, let some teams still "learning" the rules some fudge room. The hand came heavy down on me. That's fine, I'll take it. But, I'm going on record that I'll be sure as hell to make the sure the hand doesn't come down light on anyone else in the future either. The old bad ass Preds of years ago may be gone, but at the point in time, I'm ready to take of the charge of being pissy about every little thing.

I know I'm not blameless, I've never claimed to be blameless. I pm'd with you on Saturday laying out the situation. I pm'd Brett laying out the situation and taking the responsibility for it. I thought I could get back to the boards and do what I needed to do later in the day, but couldn't. So shit happens. I'll deal with it and just keep trying to win games as best I can. I wish I could say that for all of the other 11 teams in the league.

The crime ws that you knowingly exceeded the cap for more than 24 hours. You've been around this league long enough to know the repercussions, and easily could have posted a thread stating "if my deal with Matt fails to be confirmed timely, make the following cuts..." to keep yourself clear. You also could have put a restriction on your deal with Brett that it was dependent on the completion of your deal with Matt since the cap issues were related.

You helped write the rules, and unfortunately, they're very clear on this situation. It sucks I know, but it was preventable.

So are you saying that the suckers (oops, I mean the Owners) of the teams you are trying to trade with does not want to win, that they have no clue and are just giving away their players...doesn't seem to make sense especially when they are making deals with you...

Maybe I missed something, but I don't see that implied anywhere in what Brian wrote (and definitely not in the section you quoted).

I don't think he was referring to the teams he was trading with. I also don't think there were going to be big winners or losers in either of his deals that fell through.

Ah, now I see the sentence you seized upon. Obviously, he was exaggerating for effect when he said 11 teams. Since he set up the opposite of "not trying hard enough" teams as "Yet those teams trying to compete, make their teams better, stay active...", clearly he'd consider himself and his trading partners in the second category.

Default Re: TRADE REVERSED DUE TO DODGERS EXCEEDING CAP - Dodgers and Absolut agree on deal

I corrected my original post for clarities' sake.

Also, for the record, I'm not quite as bitter at this moment that I was this morning. I am bitter, just not as bitter as I sounded. It was the perfect storm of being a Monday morning, being frustrated with what happened, and heary Caddy's injury could be career ending. I was a little upset. But, whatever, I'll get over it. Things will go on. Some teams will phone it in, others won't, I'll be competitive but not good enough to win it all. You know, the way it is every year.

Damn lack of tone of voice online! I thought you were asking a serious question. Now that I re-read seeing that you were being funny....yeah, I get it
