I'd like to get some opinions on whether or not owners should be able to bid on players NOT currently on NFL rosters....
I for one would surmise that this is not permissible under our rules - noting that this situation is not currently covered by our rules... The reason is two fold...1. We do not know if the player will ever have an NFL team. You may say this is irrelevant, but it is not and no owner should have to compete against another owner for a player not on an NFL roster regardless of cost or supposition...2. How would one calculate a value for a player not on a particular roster? Again, it matters and if each of us can't assign our own value regardless of what it is, then you can't possibly decide on what a cost could/would be...it basically goes against most of the principles we have assigned to the rules of our league... I am against allowing ANY bids on a player NOT on an NFL roster... Thoughts??? Many of you are more experienced in this league and I would like to know your thoughts on the matter and if this requires solidification within the rules...just because we have always done it this way is NOT the right answer either... Thanks...

The rules state:
"Any NFL player is eligible." So if a player is not signed by an NFL team, he is NOT an NFL player. Pretty clear I think.

Hmmm...never thought about that. So I guess that means we can't open bidding on a FA (e.g., Eric Decker who was released by Jets) until he signs with another team?

We always gone by the axiom that once a player has been exposed to the NFL Draft, or the NFL Supplemental draft, they are then exposed to Frenzy Rookie or Supplemental drafts. If they go unpicked, they are then eligible for UFA status in Frenzy.
Further any player that has had a contract in Frenzy in the past is eligible to be bid on in the future, so a case like Decker or any other homeless NFL UFA is eligible to be bid on.

Put it in writing in the rules...we can't hold your feet to the fire on an axiom...
I dont like it... If on NFL roster - then able to bid...that is nice and clear...

Based on past precedents, which is how we handle a lot of gray areas, the description I gave above is accurate, and non-rostered NFL playes CAN be bid on and extended contracts as long as they've been exposed to our drafts at one point or another.

I don't see why its even an issue. its a little risky to bid on a guy whos not on a team, but can pay off if he does land in a good spot. As far back as I can recall we have been bidding on players in this manner going years back. so I see no need for a rules update regarding this.
