Post FRENZY NEWS: Harrison Accepts Massive Offer from Wonder Mutts

There is little doubting the direction Mutts management has chosen in the current Frenzy RFA period. Team GM Jacob Atz seemed steely and determined as he addressed this reporter's inquiries. "For years our organization has neglected the WR position, to the detriment of our team." said Atz "We will be bringing experience to the position this year, players that will enhance the development of young Mutts receivers Justin McCareins, Peter Warrick, Antonio Bryant, and Tyrone Calico." True to his words, the opening days of this RFA period have seen the team strongly pursue RFA Terrell Owens, before switching directions 2 days ago and offering RFA Marvin Harrison an offer he simply could not refuse. "I'm glad to be back in Indiana, though I've always enjoyed Indianapolis... I'm not so sure about Bloomington." mused Harrison "It is a bonus that the Hoosier football team seems not to bother using the brand new, state-of-the-art Mellencamp practice facility... I suppose I could just move in..."

The Indiana Undead has also aggressively pursued Terrell Owens this RFA period, possibly signaling their desire to bring back a high profile WR. League spies feel the chances are probably 50/50 that Undead management decides to match the offer put on the table by the Wonder Mutts, but the Mutts brass feel that $2500 is an extremely generous offer to a WR and will be difficult, at the least, to take on for another team. Knowing they could secure a 1st round pick for a draft deep at WR, Atz outwardly hopes the Undead GM decides to take the free pick rather than the salary that represents the ceiling of the league's WRs.

When asked if signing RFA Marvin Harrison to an offer sheet will cause the team to take a less active role in WR acquisition this off-season, Atz kicked back in his chair and chuckled. "We have made a commitment to building at the WR position... we will fulfill that commitment."

Having covered the Wonder Mutts for the past 4 years, this reporter can tell you... owner Jacob Atz will very likely do just that.

This is Scoop Dogg reporting.

Hehe, what the writer fails to note is that Harrison agreed to terms at a 50cb salary cut when compared to last year! If the Undead don't land TO I can see them matching this offer, heck Marvin cost them a tad more last year.

I think Harrison is worth a little more than TO so a match might make sense.

As we've discussed before, don't underestimate the impact a free 1st round pick might have on the decision. Especially with WRs like Owens, Horn, Toomer, J. Smith, and Rod Smith out there. One on one, none have as much value as Harrison at $2500. However, any of them around $1500 (+/-) + a free 1st rounder + $1000 (+/-) extra cap space might be worth Harrision at $2500. That's a different equation than existed with his salary last year.
