Past Champions! - A little bit of History!
1E. Past Champions 2001 - Bay Area Bloodsucking Insects vs Rapid Garbage Dogs
Insects 93.33 to 43.20
A Cinderella story??? The 5th seeded Bay Area Bloodsucking Insects (11-6) won 3 straight in the playoffs including a blowout win in the 1st Frenzy Bowl over the 2nd seeded Rabid Garbage Dogs (11-5, now under new ownership and known as the Nittany Dodgers), winning by over 50 points... 93.55 to 43.20.
2002 - Jersey Toxic Waste vs. Parkwood Predators
JTW 116.10 to 113.90
- Upsets continued in the second year of the Frenzy, with the 3rd seeded Jersey Toxic Waste (10-7) ripping up the league the second half of the season. After and 0-7 start, the Waste won their last seven regular season games to win their division. They went on to win 3 straight in the post season, including a controversial (at least according to the Predators) victory over the Parkwood Predators in Frenzy Bowl II, 116.1 to 113.9.
2003 - Parkwood Predators vs Royal Hawaiian Opihi
Preds 169.65 to 89.95
- The 2002 off-season led to a change in the playoff format, with only 4 teams reaching the payoffs (instead of 6). This led to the tightest playoff race in Frenzy history, with 3 teams in the East (Indiana, Parkwood and Hawaii) battling it out until the last week of the season for both the Eastern Division crown and the leagues sole Wild Card slot. All 3 teams finished with 9-5 records, but the Royal Hawaiian Opihi emerged as the Division Champion (giving the East it's 3rd different champion in each of the Frenzy's 3 seasons) based upon their 5-1 division record. Parkwood slipped back into the playoffs for the 3rd year in a row (the 2nd time as a Wild card) by narrowly beating out the Undead on tie-breakers. Their reward... a Wild Card berth against the Frenzy's top seeded Brain Dead Squirrel Chasers (the only other team in Frenzy history to have made the playoffs each of the leagues 1st 3 seasons). After 1 and gone losses the past 2 seasons, the Squirrels were hoping to finally get over the hump against the 4th seeded Predators. Unfortunately for the Squirrels, the Predators had other things in mind as they defeated the Squirrels by just over 24 points 163.95-139.90, in the highest combined scoring playoff game in Frenzy history. After narrowly losing to Jersey a year ago in Frenzy Bowl II by only 2.2 points, the Predators found themselves in a 2nd consecutive Frenzy Bowl appearance (the 1st team in Frenzy history to accomplish back-to-back appearances). In the other playoff game the Royal Hawaiian Opihi knocked off the Liquid Swords by ~37 points, giving the Opihi their 1st ever Frenzy playoff victory and a berth in Frenzy Bowl III against their arch-rivals and divisional foe, the Parkwood Predators. With the disappointment of the 2002 Bowl loss fresh on their minds, the 2003 Predators would not be denied the title this time around. A determined Predators squad clawed apart, chewed up, and spit out an Opihi squad that never knew what hit them Parkwood broke their own record for playoff points (set against the Squirrels the week prior) in crushing the Opihi 169.65 to 89.95. The Predators 79.7 point margin of victory was a new Frenzy Playoff record.
2004 - Wonder Mutts vs Parkwood Predators

- Fresh off their Frenzy Bowl win just a few months earlier the Predators kicked off their 2004 campaign with a hot start, going 5-0 to begin the season before running into the team that would eventually wrench the trophy out of their hands. In week 6, the Predators took one on the chin against the upstart 3-2 Wonder Mutts. The Mutts (2003's celler dwellars) gained confidence with the victory over the reigning champs, using the win as a springboard to a 7-0 winning streak before they themselves hit a linchpin in their 2nd meeting against their arch-division rivals, the Liquid Swords. The Swords ended the Mutts hot streak, and eventually stole the division title out of the Mutts hands a week later in a tie breaker based off their 5-1 division record vs. the Mutts 4-2 record (with the 2nd loss coming week 14 when destiny was in the Mutts paws). This led to the Mutts having to face-off against the Swords for the 3rd time in 5 weeks in the opening round of the playoffs, with homefield advantage on the side of the Swords. The Mutts gained entry into Frenzy Bowl IV when they squeaked by with a slim 5 pt victory over the Liquid Swords. Meanwhile, the Predators were on a collusion course with perceived destiny, enroute to their 3rd straight Frenzy Bowl appearance and a shot at defending their title when they pasted the inexperienced Nittany Dodgers in a 45 pt route (a game where the Predators scored a team record 177.25 points). Unfortunately, the overconfident Predators took the Mutts far too lightly a week later with the Frenzy Bowl Trophy on the line, and learned a lesson about all the disrespect they'd given the Central division throughout the season. The Mutts completed a cycle from worst (2003) to FIRST (2004) as they routed the playoff weary Predators by over 40 points to win their 1st title. Ironically, the traditionally ridiculed Central division thus became the 1st division in the Frenzy to take home the Bowl title twice. The East and West each have 1 Frenzy Bowl win to the Centrals 2. Well done guys!

I have to admit, I thought I was toast without Manning, Tomlinson, and Harrison... over 63% of my cap was sitting on the sidelines in the most important game of the year! But, my young draftees came through for me when I needed them most!
I gotta give one :IconDrinkto Mark Clayton and Samie Parker for producing in the most important game of the year, and Caddy proved he was worth the 1.01 pick by giving me a big 30+ points to cover LT's absence! My draftees from 2004 and 2005 were integral to my success all year long, and particularly in the Frenzy Bowl!
Now I face the challenge of rebuilding nearly from scratch, I have only about 2k committed in cap, but huge contracts to try and keep in Manning, LT, and Harrison. Should be fun!
It was a fun and challenging season, I look forward to the challenge of trying to do it all again next year. And Brian, kudos for a great rebound from a 2-5 start! You were the hottest team going, and beating you to win it all was no small accomplishment. Congrats on the team you built and good luck winning it all next season.
One sidenote BTW, I ended 2 huge winning streaks this year... Jim ripped off 9 straight wins with his Opihi before running into my Preds, and Brian had his Dodgers on an 8 game winning streak that ended this week.
I am also proud that although I lost some tough games, I never lost back to back weeks. Also, congrats to the Freedom on there 1st ever win against me way back in week 1 (you can proudly say you beat the Champs Matt)!

2007 - Royal Hawaiian Opihi vs Wonder Mutts
Opihi - 124.55 to 120.75
Well, in a game that saw 6 TD passes thrown... neither the OPIHI nor the MUTTS starting WRs saw any of that action. Five-something points to eight-something points is pretty much a wash, IMO. Disappointingly even.
On to the Saturday games...
TO got his touches before going down... Romo had a decent, but not spectacular game. Witten was just average (no TDs). Advantage Mutts after the first two games.
Well, it's not looking good for the defending champion OPIHI... we picked all of the wrong starting WRs on the squad (gulp)... and it will be up to Clinton Portis to turn in a monster performance in Minnesota, if we're going to have any chance of catching the Mutts.

Just got back from the SHERATON HAWAII BOWL (Eastern Carolina defeated Boise State with 0:05 seconds left in the game on a FG)... and checked to see that my man Portis had a MONSTER game! Wow. Now it's up to Nate Kaeding... he needs 8.26 fantasy points to keep the trophy in the islands. Wow... it's going to be fun watching that game. Go San Diego... get close to the endzone, but not close enough for TDs!
just checked Kaeding's stats for the season... he's only scored more than 8.26 points in 4 of the 14 weeks. Wow. Would have thought it would have been more. Well, Nate... it's up to you, buddy.
(Either way, Jacob, great championship... full of injuries, unfulfilled potential, excellent performances & down-to-the-wire, bite-your-nails competition!)

2008 - Amish Rake Fighters vs Valencia Attack

Congratulations to Joel and the Amish Rake Fighters, who rode their rookie stud RB (Forte) into the record books tonight, slipping past Brett's Valencia Attack, 144.30 to 132.20. The Rake Fighters had 5 of their 9 starters score in double figures - with 3 players in the 20's and one in the 30's! Valencia was actually more "balanced," if you will, when it came to scoring... 7 of the 9 scored in double figures (one in the 30's)... only Deion Branch's pathetic 1.60 point output (if you can call it that) was disappointing. However, Brett did a masterful job in choosing players this week. The only way he could have eeked out a victory would have been for him to start Fred Jackson at RB (instead of Thomas Jones or Adrian Peterson - not gonna happen) AND WR Devery Henderson instead of Branch.
A quick glance at the perpetual Frenzy Bowl trophy sitting on my mantle tells me that the 276.50 combined points is THE MOST TOTAL POINTS in a Frenzy Bowl game ever. Wow. Both opponents were indeed "worthy!"
