I love the sales pitch/discusion topic. Since I'm an impulse buying, I'll bite at the 10% hit, and I am releasing Elvis Grbac and...hmmm....oh I suppose I'll release Duce Staley while I'm at it.

The Royal Hawaiian Opihi are pleased to take a 10% cap hit by releasing the following now "former-Opihi" (over-priced from the last regime): Wayne Chrebet, Orande Gadsden, Sabastian Janokowski... with potentially more to come later! To use a phrase from a former Sportscenter anchor: "Aloha means goodbye!"

The Freedom to Release Three
Philadelphia, PA

The Philadelphia Freedom today announced that they would be terminating the contracts of three players. Freedom owner Matt Marshall noted that these decisions were necessitated by the demands of the salary cap. “A number of the deals that Hugh Jim Bissell orchestrated last year did not really pan out very well, in regards to providing us a strong cap position. Mr. Bissell has been replaced with Nomar Bad-Deals and we hope that we can position our team for success this year and for many years to come,” said Marshall.

Ophelia Paine, who notified the players of their release, had the following to say “We really liked these guys and we felt that they would be integral in our success. Unfortunately, their on the field performance did not warrant the salaries that were on the books for the coming year. By making these moves now we save the organization a good bit of money and allow these players the opportunity to find another team for the coming season.”

The first player released was WR Eric Moulds. Moulds who had a fantastic season in 2000 was considered to be an excellent selection for the Freedom however he never realized his potential. Les Ismore, the Freedom’s cap manager noted how in 2000, Moulds had 94 catches for over 1300 yards. In 2001 he had only 67 catches and barely 900 yards.

The second player released was RB Emmitt Smith. Smith ran for over 1000 yards in 2001 however, that was about 200 shy of his 2000 total. More damning was his drop in TD’s from 9 to 3. U. Lyon Sack, who represents Mr. Smith said his client was not surprised with the move since Duece McCallister’s emergence has pushed Mr. Smith to 3rd on the depth chart.

The final player cut was WR Michael Westbrook. Westbrook who had 57 catches for 664 yards and 4 TD’s never really meshed with the team. Though his agent, Noah Vale, tried to plead with the team to reconsider it’s decision the Freedom felt that this was the time to make this move.

For more information, please contact the Freedom’s Director of Public Relations, Kurt Reply.

Kudos to Mr. Kurt Reply and his most informative analysis of the recent Freedom releases. Who do I talk to about getting that $10 training camp pass so I can come and scout out my divisional rivals?

I'll be selling passes to the Opihi's workouts in Hawaii starting June 1... book your plane reservations now!

I would not mind considering the reporter bit. However, I would want to make it funny and cut on people besides myself (Hugh Jim Bissel) so that may be an issue. As for training camp in HI, I was thinking maybe league meetings or something...

I'm against "ripping" of any kind unless its directly related to Richard's big teeth.

After substantial review and interior discussion between Mr. Brant Moustis and myself, we will relieve ourselves of Mr. Isaac Bruce's salary and company, and take a 10% soft cap hit as a token momento of our acqauintance.

After careful review... detailed deliberation... and much hand-wringing... the ROYAL HAWAIIAN OPIHI have decided to terminate the services of RB Eddie George for the 2002 football season, prior to the hard cap 20% penalty kicking in tonight at midnight. The single-most determining factor was the 2272 cb salary that would have counted against the Opihi's roster for this upcoming year. The Opihi wish Mr. George all the best in the future, and hope he settles down with another team soon!
