Let’s not make this a bigger deal than it already is. I can think of several arguments to question the logic from the 2006 thread, but there is little value in re-litigating every past decision as it comes back to the surface years later. I do agree with Scorpions that neither Derby Cars, not anyone else should be expected to read all threads and look for interpretations of unclear passages of the rule book. So, in order to hold Derby Cars harmless, I propose that they be given a choice – no penalty, keep Floyd or keep Jarrett. I also propose that we extend a grace period to anybody else affected, so that they can come in compliance. Then we fix the rule book with the appropriate clarification and move on. |

Yeah we need this in the rules section, probably in two spots, the spot where we indicate salaries and years increment april 1st, and in the taxi squad section of the rules,
"Taxi-squad players entering their fourth season of NFL experience are considered part of the active squad as of April 1st of the year in which they will be starting their fourth season. Such players can be released without a cap hit." Then theres no question at all about it, thats pretty solid language |

A bunch of owners got confused by those rules in 2006 and 2010....perhaps we need to carefully spell out what is meant, so we don't have to do it again in 2014.

just to add, the rules do say the years increase, and thus he is not eligible for the taxi squad this year, so then the question is what time frame in the rules do you have to make that decision, thats all i'm pointing out.
The way the rules are written i am takign it the assumption is being that hes not eligible for taxi, hes auto promoted to active, that needs to be stated in there, that they are promoted to active on april 1st, then that closes the loop. |

Well, I think it is pretty clear, but I guess that's just me... I don't see the need to give a grace period..April 1st is when salaries and years roll over, and thus is when TS players who are moving into their 4th year need to be cut by, or else they move to active, as the rule clearly states only players with 3 years or less qualify for TS, and once April 1st hits, they are now in their 4th year....
I hope John is getting all this down to try and make the rules even more clear....

Its clear that the years and salaries increment, just not clear what your options are at that point with taxi squad guys.
And i do see how the assumption is tha tits clear, hes got 4 years, and not eligible for taxi, but the part that is missing in the rules is he needs to be promoted or cut at this time, and not when we make declarations to taxi and PS players. I think i might be reading into this as the only part in the rules really dealing with taxi and practice squad is the date we have to make declarations for rookies. |

And why would you lump in existing players to new rookies, RFA's and FA's? I don't see a problem adding to the rules that these players need to be cut by April 1 or they roll up to Active squad automatically...I would argue against adding anything else or changing the rule unless voted on to change it....

Despite my initial fuzziness on the rules here... Derby Cars have been in the league long enough to have been aware of the April 1 promotion rule. Thus, any 4th year players from the TS should have been immediately promoted to active.
Floyd is released back to UFA pool. I don't expect the new owners to read all of the threads from the history of the league. Had it been a new owner, my opinion might be different. Let's use this as a reminder for future years... clean up the language in the rules so it is clear... and move on. |

Gage has been cut previously so my roster should be in line without cutting Jarrett

Here’s what I’ve got…
"Taxi-squad players entering their fourth season of NFL experience are considered part of the active squad as of April 1st of the year in which they will be starting their fourth season. They are auto promoted to active on April 1st. Such players can be released by that time without a cap hit." Notice this April 19th post I made 4 days after joining…I felt having the rulebook reflecting all the forum revisions and changes was needed to use as a source of strategy and planning, especially for the new guys but also for the rest of you. Who is rewritting the rulebook? If I have access I could update the very few areas that I understand and have someone like Burt check for accurracy (and spelling!). It could be a "work in progress" while I play through my 1st year... In particular I would revise the RFA CB tender chart and the point compensation system for not matching your RFA's. There are also a few number discrepancies with 18 and 16 players on squads before the rookie draft and total contract years of 38 and 36 are mixed off and on in the rule document. Dates are a whole different discussion... It is important that the rule book and the forum match otherwise its difficult to build any kind of strategy. They can say things in different ways BUT they have to say the same thing. If a rule gets changed by forum vote then the rule book has to reflect that change BEFORE the change can take effect. Any owner (especially a new one) shouldn't have to wonder what the rules are! The rule book IS the rules and the forum shows the journey. Having to crosscheck with the forum to see if an issue has been revised or completely changed is ridiculous! That said - the roster.app received from Jim and the great communication and answers to my questions by Burt have made this manageable. I am looking forward to this upcoming season!!! I have been working on the revision and hope to see it replacing the 2005 version soon. It is far from complete BUT as I mentioned to Jim and Patrick it is easier for me to revise the revision then the origional. I left the foundation as was and only changed agreed upon forum revisions. My goal was to have the most current and accurate rules all in 1 place with revisions done as needed and agreed upon (and voted on as necessary). John - Emerald Coast Burners |
