Just FYI, I submitted ticket to MFL to see if they have thought about how to handle Travis Hunter in MFL, if the NFL team who drafts him, starts him on both sides of the ball, as he does here in Colorado.
Here is my query: "Just curious if there are plans to handle Travis Hunter in MFL, if he ends up playing both ways in the NFL? Currently he plays WR and CB in Colorado. Would MFL allow him to start in either position? Only one, or can you plug him into both WR and DB slots, so one person using up two slots?" Could be interesting. Will update when I hear back.

HEre is response:
"In general, the system only allows one position per player, so he would most likely be listed at WR, but we'll finalize all of that next February when we release the 2025 leagues." I guess stay tuned.

So no double duty on defense for SAC'D then... most likely?

What about one or the other? You can start him at WR but not DB or vice versa. It would be a shame to let a talent like Hunter not be available for both positions.

I would probably be against starting him at both positions in the same week but having the option of either offense or defense would be good. Kind of like Ohtani in fantasy baseball two seasons ago. If you started him at pitcher, you couldn't start him as a batter (and vice versa)

I will press to have this done, but won't hold my breath. I have been asking MFL for years to allow us to move newly added players directly to the Farm team, but so far, has not been done. It's only once a year, after rookie draft, but we have to adjust max players allowed on Active roster, or its even more work to add the rookies...le sigh...

As of now, Hunter is listed as WR in our 2025 MFL site. I have entered a followup to see if they plan to allow him to play both ways - will let you all know once I get a response.

So this is what MFL says about Hunter:
"He is listed as a WR in our system, and he will remain that way by default. Individual leagues can change his position to CB if desired, but each player can only have 1 position within a league, so dual eligibility is not an option. Your league rules are configured so all players score all stats here: League > League Rules so he will receive credit for offense and defense regardless of his position within your league." I have asked how to turn this off - seems unfair to have one player score on both sides of the ball, without using him on two starting spots...would be like having extra player each game - #1 pick I guess....

That's be interesting to see what MFL can support. Sounds like regardless, his salary will be rookie WR salary for our purposes. If he scores on both sides of the ball and that can't be adjusted then his value (and draft position) likely jumps.

The way the scoring is setup, he will be listed as WR, salary will be WR, as will bonuses, but he will get points on both sides of the bal, as MFL reply stated:
"he will receive credit for offense and defense regardless of his position within your league." Dave is taking offers for pick 1.1 at this time....

Sounds like the settings would let you change it so WRs don’t get points for things like tackles and interceptions, etc.

OK, so there is a way to set which positions are for each scoring category. I am pinging the rules committee to see if we want to attempt to limit certain things. Will post more once we decide.

These are the scoring categories - all of them are currently set to allow these points for ALL positions - keep in mind, we want to still allow points for special teams play.
But would like to get the leagues inputs on what maybe to limit to defensive positions only: Number of Passing TDs 1-10 4.00 points each Passing Yards -50--1 -2.50 points for -50, and then 0.05 point for every 1 thereafter Passing Yards 1-999 0.05 points each Pass Attempts 1-99 0.05 points each Pass Completions 1-99 0.10 points each Pass Interceptions Thrown 1-99 -1.00 point each Passing 2 Pointers 1-99 2.00 points each Number of Rushing TDs 1-10 6.00 points each Rushing Yards -99--1 -9.90 points for -99, and then 0.10 point for every 1 thereafter Rushing Yards 1-999 0.10 points each Rush Attempts 1-99 0.25 points each Rushing 2 Pointers 1-99 2.00 points each Number of Receiving TDs 1-10 6.00 points each Receiving Yards -99--1 -9.90 points for -99, and then 0.10 point for every 1 thereafter Receiving Yards 1-999 0.10 points each Receptions 1-99 0.50 points each Receiving 2 Pointers 1-99 2.00 points each Length of Field Goal Made 0-29 3.00 Length of Field Goal Made 30-110 3.00 points for 30, and then 0.10 point for every 1 thereafter Extra Points 1-99 1.00 point each Number of Punt Return TDs 0-10 6 points each Number of Kickoff Return TDs 0-10 6 points each Fumbles Lost (to Opponent) 1-99 -1.00 point each Number of Defensive Fumble Recovery TDs 1-10 6.00 points each Fumble Recoveries (from Opponent) 1-99 2.00 points each Opponent Fumble Recovery Yards -99--1 -4.95 points for -99, and then 0.05 point for every 1 thereafter Opponent Fumble Recovery Yards 1-999 0.05 points each Number of Offensive Fumble Recovery TDs 1-10 6.00 points each Forced Fumbles 1-99 2.00 points each Number of Interception Return TDs 1-10 6.00 points each Interceptions Caught 1-99 3.00 points each Interception Return Yards -99--1 -4.95 points for -99, and then 0.05 point for every 1 thereafter Interception Return Yards 1-999 0.05 points each Passes Defended 1-99 1.00 point each Number of Blocked Field Goal TDs 1-10 6.00 points each Blocked Field Goals 1-99 4.00 points each Number of Blocked Punt TDs 1-10 6.00 points each Blocked Punts 1-99 4.00 points each Blocked Extra Points 1-99 4.00 points each Tackles 1-99 2.00 points each Assists 1-99 1.00 point each Sacked a QB 0.5-20.0 2.00 point for every 0.5 Safeties 1-99 6.00 points each

Maybe... all stats related to interceptions, forced fumbles (I know occasionally an offensive player will force a fumble after an offensive turnover, but it's rare), and passes defended?

Looking back at scoring (which I didn't know until yesterday), offensive players have been scoring IDP points (probably since day 1 of the league). These are usually in the form of tackles after an offensive turnover (e.g., Mahomes throws INT, Kelce tackles DB for 2 points). I'm sure it's also happened on the other side of things where IDP player comes in for special offensive package and scores offensive points (e.g., Bosa catches TD pass - points for reception, yards, and TD). To me that set a precedent so Hunter should score both offensive and IDP points under current rules. If we want to change this, it would require a majority vote along with scoring changes.

The more i think on this im for leaving things as they are.
Looking at top CB @ S, a CB doesnt hit the list till #15. I expect they will play him more as CB and sprinkle in some WR. |

Jus throwing this out there - even if he plays both ways, say he finished #20 in both WR and CB, using the #20 points from last year in both, would be a combined 321 points...so about #25 overall...which top 25 is mostly QB's and several RB's - so I guess it would be similar to having a good running RB who catches a lot of passes also. Still pretty valuable for a WR.
My choice would be to limit these to IDP's only, and leave the rest as is: Number of Interception Return TDs 1-10 6.00 points each Interceptions Caught 1-99 3.00 points each Interception Return Yards -99--1 -4.95 points for -99, and then 0.05 point for every 1 thereafter Interception Return Yards 1-999 0.05 points each Passes Defended 1-99 1.00 point each

I'm leaning toward keeping things as they are too. He comes in as the top rated WR for this class, but also as a shutdown CB. Your top scoring CBs are rarely shutdown CBs, but mostly younger/weaker CBs that QBs will pick on.
If Hunter ends up scoring massive amounts of points as dual scoring threat, then his rookie bonuses will elevate his salary quickly. When he eventually hits Franchise or RFA, market will determine his value. Ok as I typed this all out, I'm on the side of keeping scoring as is. |

Not to open this up again, but do we have full stats for his college season last year? It would be interesting to see what the difference was per game for his WR and special teams scoring vs adding in plays on defense. It’s probably not a huge difference, but we won’t know unless we see the data.

That’s about what I would have expected. A 33% boost is pretty big, but his WR numbers should come down, for sure.
Thanks for running those numbers.

Ok so he will be considered a WR who may pick up a few extra Defensive points (like when a QB makes a tackle after an INT)? With the draft starting Monday thought I should probably make sure I am clear here. Thanks!
