Default Popes/Insects strike an intra-divisional trade

The Popes continue their high-volume trading ways, constructing a team to be reckoned with in 2007. Insects build for the future and land the NYG RB (Mike, how you feeling about trading him to my predecessor now? ;))

Popes give:

2008 Popes 1st
2008 Valencia 1st
B. Jacobs (3 years: 315/347/381)
M. Hasselback (1 year: 747)

Insects give:

2007 LT 1st round comp (currently 1.13)
S. Smith (1 year: 1089)
J. Delhomme (2 years: 468/515)

Although I know nothing about your individual teams, I love a blockbuster.
Nice job gentlemen. Looks good for both.

Why the need/desire to give up Smith?

Thus ends my lackluster pursuit of Steve Smith since the middle of last season. Ah well, I guess I'll just have to jack up the price for J next RFA season.

Going into this off-season this would be my last year to compete for the Championship with the team as is with Steve Smith heading into his final years contract. No way I could afford LT, Steve Smith, and Donald Driver once Smith hits FA.

I have essentially the same team as last year minus LT. Tomlinson had a record breaking year last year AND I still didn't win the league. Once I lost him in RFA due to the decline on Shuan Alexander.... my change of focus shifted to the future. I had hoped trading for Kevin Jones would help but I forgot about his injury, then the news about Shuan Alexander possibly having a broken foot got me thinking about moving Smith to get whatever I could for him instead of losing him to RFA.

I put him on the block content on keeping him as I still have a possibly decent team (at the time... Delhomme, Alexander, Jones, Smith, Driver, and McMicheal), but willing to let him go if I got an offer that I liked.

That's one way of looking at it. More power to you, my friend. I hope it works out for you.

I guess I have more of "a chip and a chair" mentality... and look to inseason free agency to make a run and be competative with hopefully a shot at making the playoffs.

That's why FF is so fun... lots of ways to manage your team. And both the Popes & Insects have certainly done a lot in the offseason in way of managing! Congrats.

And I am in a better position to do that now. In the trade I was able to sacrafice one position to address needs at 2 others. I upgraded my QB to Hassellbeck from Delhomme and got a potential stud RB and the 3rd RB I need now that Lamont Jordan is in play with Brandon Jacobs. Hassellbeck and Jacobs combined are roughly the same price as Steve Smith, so I get some more cap flexibility.

Plus I got 2 more 1st round picks and Brandon Jacobs who has a cheap 3 year salary if he ever amounts to anything.

Frank trading Smith away when we had a deal all but done is the least of my worries at the moment. Bummed to lose out, but I hesitated, asked to get back to him with a final confirm last night and he traded him from underneath me... I understand and don't begrudge him of that. Just pissed at myself for debating the move till I got home and could look everything over with the app and whatnot.

Gee... in that case, keeping Smith out of the East was A Great Move! I take back what I said earlier. Well done men! Well done.

I feel so defeated today

Should I add that I found out I lost him as my Sabres were getting their asses handed to them in game 3 (don't be fooled by the score, they were NEVER in the game).

This was lose/lose to me. Smith going to the Preds would have made them the odds on favorite at this point. Smith going to the Popes keeps him in the division. Ah well. Deion Brach will bring me to the promised land.

FYI... The reigning champion OPIHI, with newly signed RB stud Clinton Portis (teeming with current RB stud, Bryan Westbrook... not to mention WRs Torry Holt and sophomore phenom Marques Colston), plan on keeping the Preds "down and out" in 2007.:muhaha

Works for me, and I mean no disrespect to the defending champs. I'd agree you're the favorite in the East at the moment, but adding one of the best WR at a huge discount would have tipped the scales in my opinion.

None taken. Granted... there's still a long way to go until the next Frenzy champ is crowned... but we don't plan on giving up the title without a fight!

So I guess everyone wins in the trade!

Popes get a stud WR
I get help at QB, RB, and two 1st rounders
And the league enjoys Mike's suffering!

Popes perspective: I essentially traded a 2008 1st rounder and Jacobs for Steve Smith. I feel like I am properly situated for the future w/ C. Benson, R. Brown, L. White, and V. Davis all on cheap 3-4 year deals. I feel with that core, I don't need to build via the draft that much and I can use my draft picks via trade to construct a team that will win now. With the addition of Steve Smith at 1089 and an extra $300 savings at QB, I have filled out a rock solid starting lineup and still have money to be able to have solid backups for bye weeks.

As of now (who said I'm done trading???), the Popes will start:
D. McNabb
C. Benson
R. Brown
S. Smith
T. Owens
H. Ward
V. Davis

I'm extremely happy with that lineup. While I hated to give up one of my cheap, long contract RBs, I realistically was not going to use Jacobs AT ALL this year (not even on the Bye Week - both my starters sit Week 9, and so does he).

I want to publicly thank my predecessor. While I took over a struggling team, he gave me exactly what I like: cheap, long-term, quality RBs. I love the flexibility that comes from having that kind of core. Leaving me with R. Brown, L. White, and B. Jacobs was a great core to start from.

Jake Delhomme.

Sounds different now ... lol ... like half my trades that I have done!

Plus, how come he gets credit for turning Jacobs into MJD, but I don't get credit for turning 1 year Steve Smith into 4 year, super cheap Santonio Holmes???

Nor, as I have indicated before, am I sure why credit is due for turning Jacobs into MJD, anyway. I love preseason speculation!
