Brett, I can't say this for certain, but I don't think I looked at the 2008 1st round pick that way. It's hard to remember exactly, because we had so many rounds of negotiations, and I've had so many trades. But I know (and Brian could back me up, because I sought his opinion) that I considered Manning and McNabb essentially straight-up, given their contracts. I always viewed the loss of the Manning/McNabb aspect of the trade as more detrimental to you (due to your cap issues) than to me (I could have a great, but massively injury prone QB for $800 or a great and never injured QB for $1400 - pretty much a wash). I thought you added the 2008 1st round because I was tripping up over giving away all three of my 2007 1st rounders. I could be wrong...

May well be... I tried to go back and look at our posts.. but, could not find them all.
I thought the deal was done and agreed to prior to the adding of my 2008 1st rounder... The only thing that changed that was the opposing views.. Although, as you say, we did have many posts in the negotiation process.
I could be wrong... It wouldn't be the 1st time.. And I am sure, won't be the last.
Although, this was the post put up after the trade:

Big trade (1.1) for Popes and Absolut
Popes send:
WR S.Moss (Wash) [1 year: 726]
2007 draft picks: 1.1, 1st round Portis comp, 2.5 [the comp pick should be around 1.20]

Absolut sends:
RB C.Benson (Chi) [3 years: 581/639/703]
TE V.Davis (SF) [4 years: 143/157/173/190]
2007 draft picks: 2.8, 3.8, 4.8
2008 draft pick: 1st round

The 1st round 2008 was added to compensate for not doing the Manning and McNabb part of the deal.

If we made it week 1, a team wouldn't have that leeway, and it would be harder to make a deal.

But that's just off the top of my head.
Honestly you're thinking way too much into this (but maybe thats why you write the rules).

I don't even know the league timing... so I would never have known or would it be in the back of my mind that I had a couple of weeks before the season to manage my roster.

Second, what difference is a couple of weeks? Honestly... the good FA will be gone by the time the RFA trade is completed as UFA period would have closed. It's hardly a factor I consider when making RFA deals.

Once and for all....

Are RFA trades against the intent of the rule - which is to curb RFA price fixing?

When you say "put up", where (the underlined part, I mean)? I don't see that in the original thread: http://www.predsff.com/forums/showthread.php?t=10692

64 posts following a huge trade for 1.1. I expected some of the above. Instead it's this crap. What fun...

Good stuff!! I read the first part, and was thinking, "WHAT? I never posted that. Why would I compliment Preds on anything?"
