Here are the key dates for everyone to keep in mind.....
Tuesday March 24th at 11:59pm - RFA Declarations are Due Tuesday March 31st at 11:59pm - Soft Cap Period Ends Wednesday April 1st at 12:00am - Hard Cap Period Begins Wednesday April 1st at 12:00am - RFA Bidding Opens Thursday April 30th at 11:59pm - RFA Bidding Closes Monday May 11th at 12:00am (the 2nd Monday in May each year) this allows about 3 weeks for the NFL draft to be evaluated - Rookie Draft Begins June 1st at 12:00am - this date will also be somewhat flexible in that as it would not open until 48 hours after the rookie draft has been completed - Opening of the UFA period August 30 at 12:00am - this will be a flexible date each year that basically commences the day after the 3rd pre-season games end (4th for the few teams that play 5). This will be approximately 7-10 days before the NFL regular season kicks off - Injured Reserve Opens August 30 at 11:59pm - this will be a flexible date each year that basically commences the day after the 3rd pre-season games end (4th for the few teams that play 5). This will be approximately 7-10 days before the NFL regular season kicks off - Off-Season Free Agency ENDS August 31 (flexible date to be the day after contracts and DS are declared) - opening of In-Season Free Agency |

Burt- Thanks for posting this here and on the other site. I guess what I am trying to figure out is three things:
1. We can make cuts at this point and they will be soft cap cuts, correct? 2. At what point do we need to clear our IR's? 3. When do the rookie bonuses get assigned? I have a couple of guys I would like to reneg and I want to make sure that I have enough cap years and dollars to cover them (essentially as part of my 2008 roster) and I want to make sure that I don't incure any cap penalties or cause any undo issues. I apologize for all the questions but I am guessing that everyone may be able to benefit once we get these things hashed out. Thanks! |

No problem about questions...you could have gotten the answers in the rules, but hey, I have time ;-)
1. Soft Cap period ends March 31st at midnight. All cuts made until then fall under Soft Cap rules. 2. By the start of the next rookie draft, each franchise must clear IR and have no more than thirty players on their roster. 3. Contracts roll over at end of Soft Cap, thus March 31 at midnight. This is when all salaries increases, including rookie bonuses, will go into effect.

A couple of dates (milestones) we may want to add here:
Monday March 9th at 11:59pm – Franchise Tag numbers for 2009 released Monday March 23th at 11:59pm - 2009 RFA Declarations are Due and Franchise Tags declared Wednesday April 1st at 12:00am – Drafted players with 3+ years cleared from Taxi Squad (no impact to Practice Squad players) and automatically made active if not cut Wednesday April 1st at 12:00am – Drafted Players bonuses added to 2009 salaries |

I kind of think the third Monday in March makes it a little easier. Except that this year I think the third Monday would be the 16th.
I was more interested in having the Franchise Tag information added (release of salary amounts and declarations). Also, I thought adding the information about the clearing of the TS and the rookie bonuses might be worth adding to the official calendar. Thanks. |

Yes, I agree those are great additions. I'll add those when I get a chance, unles you would like to take over the keeping of the rules doc? Really a piece of cake man.
As for the RFA declarations, I think Mike originally made that a week before the Soft Cap ends, which would be March 24th, since Soft Cap ends March 31st. I do not think it really matters, and we can make it the 4th Monday of March..what ever you guys think makes more sense....

When will the trade deadline be this year? I know in the past it was after the week 13 games (I think that would make it 12/2 this year). However, that was when we played a 14 week season. Are we moving it up a week to 11/25?
Also, I apologize if this has been posted somewhere already but I did look and did not see anything that covered this. |

The rules are quite clear as to when the trading deadling is:
"The deadline for all trades is the Wednesday prior to the week 12 games at noon (12pm) ET"

I guess that is my question. Was last Wednesday the week 12 game deadline? Since we played 10 weeks and then week 11 had two games we now have played 12 games. However, we have only had 11 weeks. Is the deadline passed or is it 11/25?
Not trying to nitpick but want to make sure that I (and others) understand. Thanks. |

No problem. Valid question, coming from a Rules Committe chair person ;-)
Since all other calendar timelines are based on NFL schedule, not our fantasy schedule, I don't see why we should muddy the waters since we now have a double header. Unless someone has a valid argument to the contrary, I am going with the NFL schedule for all our timelines that speak to specific games/weeks.

I'll review the dates when I get a chance. I updated the rules before last years season, so the dates in there should be pretty accurate.....

I think we need to just adjust the dates or days from the first post in the thread to match up with the 2010 calender. I.E. Do we need RFAs declared by Tuesday March 23rd or Wednesday March 24th?
