APPROVED 8-4 (Development Squad Changes)

In the Rookie Salary scale thread, Dodgers and I diverted into a discussion on the Dev Squad.

Based on input from Dodgers and others, the following changes seem to be well received.

1. Eliminate the 3 year rookie max on the Dev Squad and make it the same 5 year max as on active contracts (Keep in mind, after 3 NFL seasons a player will not be eligible for the Dev Squad, so at that point, if given the max 5 year contract teams would have 2 years of their Dev Squad player on the active roster.

2. Make the Dev Squad a true place for us to develop our rookies by expanding the Dev Squad contract years to 10 effective immediatly this season.

3. Expand the Dev Squad to 4 players in 2003 with 12 Contract Years and a cap of 2750 to further allow room for growth of both this years players and next years.

4. Expand the Dev Squad to it's final size of 5 players in 2004 with 14 Contract Years and a cap of 3500 to further allow room for growth of players.

The idea here is to make the Dev Squad a true place to develop rookies. With the new rookie salary scale we put in place there won't be any real "bargains" except for the few deep sleepers that fall through the cracks, and that happens in the NFL too (Terrell Davis, Jamal Anderson, etc

)!

Using the ideas above will give us an opportunity to actually develop our rookies, and thus helps transition this league into a true dynasty style cap/contract league.

Vote your opinion in the poll above, also, please reply with any suggestions you may have on how these ideas can be imporved upon in this thread, we still have time to tweak this part of the rules IMO.
