Here are the key upcoming dates for everyone to keep in mind (all times are Eastern):

March 24th at 11:59pm - RFA Declarations are Due
March 31st at 11:59pm - Soft Cap Period Ends
April 1st at 12:00am - Hard Cap Period Begins
April 1st at 12:00am - RFA Bidding Opens
April 30th at 11:59pm - RFA Bidding Closes
May 9th at 12:00am - Rookie Draft Begins

Question about timing of the RFA Tenders and the April 1st rollover.

Do RFA tenders count towards the 2010 cap or do they count against the 2011 cap which starts on April 1st when RFA begins?

The questions is when RFA tenders are declared tomorrow (24th) do they start counting against the cap?

I know I'm in the wrong forum... but this question would pertain to the FRENZY, too. I'd venture to think the RFA tenders count when the April 1st RFA period begins. Burt?

I believe that's what the rules state. Salaries of tagged players apply to active rosters as of April 1 of each year.

RFA tenders count against the 2011 salary cap, after salaries and contracts have rolled over on April 1st...only the starting salaries of course...

Hey Burt. The rules state that franchise tags can be placed any time up until contracts roll over into the next season (i.e. March 31), but we said RFA tags had to be placed by March 24. Does that mean the cutoff for franchise tags this year was also the 24th or did we have until the 31st?

I would say that Franchise tags can be placed up until new season starts / contracts roll over (March 31, 11:59pm ET).

RFA tenders need to come about a week before to allow time for teams to strategize how they will approach the RFA period.

Franchising does not affect RFA strategies so it should be allowed up until the new season starts.

If the rule states we have until salaries roll over, then you have until midnight March 31. RFA declaration is a different animal, as Patrick stated above.

Monday August 29th at 12:00am - Injured Reserve Opens

Monday August 29th at 11:59pm - Off-Season Free Agency ENDS and All RFA, UFA and Rookie contracts are due, along with all DS declared

Tuesday August 30 - 12:01am - In-Season Free Agency begins

Monday September 5th at 11:59pm - Off-Season Free Agency ENDS and All RFA, UFA and Rookie contracts are due, along with all DS declared

Tuesday September 6th - 12:01am - In-Season Free Agency begins
