Jets 1.14 TE Dustin Keller

Not totally sold on this pick but at this point I figured I will take the top TE on the board (pre and post draft). Hopefully, he can team up with Dallas Clark to cover the position (cheaply) for years to come.

Well, this is who I wanted at 2.7. On to plan B.

I think you took him a tad early (maybe by a few picks). I was hoping he'd slide with the TE mess they currently have in NY (disgruntled Baker, Bubba Franks, etc).

Nice pick.

I don't disagree that he was a tad early here.

However, with the bunching of the WR's I felt like I could still get a solid WR prospect at pick 27 (my next scheduled pick) but I had a feeling someone with a number of picks (like you) would grab him before I could get him.

Also, with all the down time and no clear talent tiers left to exploit it seemed like trying to trade down would have been fruitless.

Oh, well with the reduce TE costs he is still cheap and hopefully will emerge as a receiving TE that can be moved around utilized like Dallas Clark in Indy.

I like this pick a lot for the reason that you knew you weren't going to be able to get him later in the draft. Sometimes that forces your hand. And like you said, the amount of "bunched" WRs will still allow you grab one later in the draft.

Making a pick too early is all relative to need. Just like last year in Frenzy, Mike took Meachem at 1.4 because he needed WRs. Was it early for him to be picked ... sure, but not early due to need.

A Keller and Clark tandem will be nice for the years to come...

What? This is SACD??? Oops sorry, I guess Frenzy is still in wasteland mode.

Sometimes you have to reach a tad early to fill a need or ensure that you get the guy you want. I like the pick. Could be a nice value find for Matt.

Watched this guy play when Purdue came to Hawaii last year (2006). This guy was amazing (caught everything thrown to him, practically!). There were Purdue fans sitting up in our nosebleed section, and I got talking to a guy who used to run track with Keller. Turns out Keller was the Indiana State high jumping champion... and was not very highly recruited for football. But the kid's got mad skills, as my 13-year son likes to say. He'll be fun to watch develop.
