Falcons 4.02 Harry Douglas WR

Tough, tough decision. Hardest one of the draft for me so far.

Falcons GM thinks he can be a faster Wes Welker.

While that might be a stretch, hey it's the 4th round and Atlanta has crappy wide receivers so I imagine he'll get PT pretty quickly.

Well.. that is a little pessimistic! I don't know how much of an impact he will have this year, but seriously? You don't think he will even make the final roster?!

small guy and poor routes...

Roddy White
Laurent Robinson
Joe Horn (for now)
Michael Jenkins

He may make the team, but he will not play this yr. And for all Shaders bragging about knowing good players I don't, I know that the knock on Douglas was poor route running and that is Welkers specialty.

So to say that a small little receiver will excel like Welker is rediculous when he has to beat out 4 good receivers. Even if Horn leaves a rookie isnt going to beat out those other guys in my opinion.

Shader wasted a pick.

Ben the knock on him is not poor route running. That is one of his strengths.

Saying he won't make the team shows that you really pulled that analysis from your backside.

He'll be starting in the slot within two years.

And I doubt you're going to find alot of guys in the 4th round who are going to put up big numbers this year, so it's all about 2-3 years down the road.

Just follow me Ben, I'll show you how to take a crappy team to the championship. Enjoy the ride.

Nice! Super-trash talk I love it! But, Ben, you kind of prove my point:

Roddy White - Chronic under-achiever who FINALLY flashed a little ability last year but so what?
Laurent Robinson - Okay, you have to like this guys talent. He has a good chance to start this year.
Joe Horn (for now) - Too old, too slow and asked to be traded!? Smell the coffee cuz that is sooo 5 years ago. He is cut.
Michael Jenkins - All around PoS with hands like CONCRETE. How is this guys still drawing a paycheck?!

The fact that the Falcons won't be running many 3 WR sets under new offensive coordinator Mike Mularkey hurts Douglas' chance for immediate production more than his competition!! Having said that, he WILL make the team and has a chance to develop over the next couple of years but since he wasn't on my draft list (and I am assuming he wasn't on yours either), we should be thanking Shader for 'wasting' his pick! ;)

White finally succeeded b/c they don't have Vick at QB anymore.

Interesting Ben. I'm not saying Harry's going to be as good as Wes Welker, but here's what I just read about Douglas today:

5/19: Look for rookie WR Harry Douglas to make an immediate impact as a slot receiver in 2008. Douglas possesses tremendous quickness and burst, he's a superb route-runner, and he excels at gaining separation downfield. He'll give the Falcons another threat alongside projected starters WR Roddy White and WR Laurent Robinson.

Where are you getting your info from?

I just saw Ryno picked him and I knew a few things:

Guy is most likely trash.
Guy is a horrible player ie. poor route running
Guy will most likely not make the team.

joke

I get a lot of wear and tear out footballguys.com and this was the pre draft analysis:

"74 - Harry Douglas - WR - Louisville
I'm not sure what to make of Douglas. He's tough over the middle for a tiny WR, and he seems to have legit field pad speed no matter what his timed speed registered at. Still, he's not a crisp route runner, and is not a shifty dependable slot WR type. I'm afraid he has too much of the game of a wideout in a body better suited for a 3rd or 4th WR, and he doesn't have great return skills either - so I'm not sure how he will win a long term job except a stretch the D guy in 4 wide sets."

This was the after the draft commentary:

"72. Harry Douglas - WR - Atlanta

Is Bobby Petrino still coaching this team? A too small WR who doesn't run crisp routes in the third?"

So, while I enjoy bashing my pal Ryno, I do think that some scouts have doubts about his ability.

See ya.

Are those scouts? Or ignorant posters that you're copying. I'll go with the latter.

Staff? Scouts? Not posters... they visit the combine and the scouting sessions.
