Llamas would like to claim Petigrew and assign to TS. Assuming this can be done (I don't see anything specific in the rules that would force him to Active), I would cut a different player from my TS.

Anyone know differently?

My understanding is that only players drafted or traded for on origional teams taxi or practice squad are elgible for taxi squad. Any UFA's picked up or claimed are not elgible for taxi squad. I believe a rookie or taxi squad player cut is an unrestricted free agent (UFA) EVEN if claimed...
Commish? Burt?
A loophole might be to trade with the origional owner BEFORE the
11:59 pm (EST) deadline is ok since "subject to change"...

Rich had asked me about this before putting in the claim... and to be honest, I couldn't remember. I suggested he look into the rules to see if it says anything. I know once a player becomes a legitimate FA, he cannot be put onto another TS. TS/PS eligible players can be traded. But I can't remember the ruling about waiver claims on TS/PS players.

Chances are the Frenzy was set up like SAC'D... so Burt, any insight?

(By the way, though the 11:59 deadline is minutes away, I'll declare the LLAMAS will not be on the hook for a waiver claim if it turns out Pettigrew isn't eligible for his TS.)

I believe the rules are only if he is traded can he go to TS, once he becomes a FA, he is no longer eligible

Correct. The question I had was... is he a "FA" if he's claimed on waivers? In the NFL, if a player is released, there's a waiver process where teams can put in a claim to pick him up - teams with the worst records get higher priority. Then if he clears waivers, ANY team can sign him.

Not trying to be difficult... just can't honestly remember if a waiver claim in actuality prevents a player from being a FA... since the claiming team will assume the same salary/contract.

If you are picking up the player "as-is" when you make a waiver claim (i.e., contract salary and years), doesn't it make sense to conclude that you are also picking up his eligibility status "as-is"?

That's my thinking, too.
Burt?

I believe in the past we have let owners who make a "waiver claim" on TS eligible players move them to a TS.

We allow traded players to be put on TS, so I don't see why a waiver claim where you take the original contract not be allowed on TS.

Unless there's another strong objection... and you'd like to request I take an "official vote" among the rules committee... I'm going to rule that ANY TS/PS PLAYERS WAIVED THEN CLAIMED ARE HEREBY ELIGIBLE FOR TS/PS DESIGNATION ON THEIR NEW TEAMS. This only applies to players claimed via waivers, with the new owners assuming their original remaining contracts.

Okay - I'll put Pettigrew on TS and cut WR Andre Roberts in another thread. Thanks for vetting this.

Not sure about the 24 vs. 72 hour claim rule... since we're in-between inseason & off season... but let's consider him CLAIMED.
