Are you planning on starting McMahon? I doubt it, how about Couch? Yeah, didn't think so. I am. Are you that scared of a freakin waiver wire pickup?

So pay through the nose if you want couch. You can have McMahon. I sure hope you start him. I'm just shaking at the thought of it...

WR Wayne Chrebet is released, QB Mark Brunell is placed on IR, and Couch is placed active roster at the required 1 year.

I had to scare my brother-in-law off or I may not have had a QB this weekend. Apparently it worked ;).

Normally I would have played Brunell with Garcia only playing the 1st series, but he's a gametime decision which isn't good. I was going to bid on a player Monday night but wanted to see the NFL injury report, which was of course released a day later than normal due to the holiday.

Bidding to play keep away is a weakness in the rules as you so abtly stated a couple weeks back. He clearly was doing no more than that, which IS legal, but totally cheap.

Maybe we should require that any player bidded on in weeks 14-17 by the playoff teams must be STARTED the week they are bid on by the winning team and all bids will close prior to the start of the 1st game that week. That might resolve the Keep-Away BS.

I have no idea how to fix the system for the regular season however, although I don't think the situation in the regular season is nearly the same.

This would of course be a conversation more appropriate for our off season rules clean up project, but I'm not sure I like the requirement to start rule. I know when I bid on Tony Fisher the first week, that I was bidding on him not so much to use him, but so that if Green went down, no one else would grab him and be able to use him against me. I like you rule for the last week, where picking up a player you will not start makes no sense other than to block you one opponent from using him. Well, we see that does happen in the NFL (see the San Diego Chargers and Deion Sanders).

The obvious solution to this is just to bid you max (as I assume you did for Couch, with your 442 bid, though I did not look at the roster app). There is no harm in bidding the max, assuming its your last move of the year. You can't extend the contract past the season, and unless he gets hurt in practice this week, you have no reason to cut him, and therefor can just let the contract expire after the game (or whenever it officially happens).

Now the true justice of what transpired is that Couch outscores McMahaon, and this is all moot. Of course I'd hate to see that happen, and the difference be the difference in your game, and Kyle would have shot himself in the foot. That would be cruel justice. :p

I do not think bidding on a player to keep them away from an opponent, esp for the superbowl is cheap at all. It is very prudent and NFL teams do it(5 teams made a claim on Deion Sanders to keep him away from the Raiders). If it were me, knowing your 2 options for QB this week were very questionable I would have given up almost anything to keep you from getting another QB.

You know, I hate to see the title game decided this way. If Jersey doesn't play games I would've had McMahon and been in it, instead he's gonna win the bowl.

Congrats I guess, but it was more luck than skill. Jersey's team sucks IMO. Couch breaking his leg, gimme a break.

We need to rethink this week 17 Superbowl thing... it totally rewards the shittier teams over the better ones.

Mike, I am in agreement with you on the week 17 superbowl. Back when I first started playing ('90 was my first year), we had an 8 team league. The best team from the regular season was the best cause they were stacked with Bufflo Bills (I believe it was the '91 season). He had Thurman, Kelly, and one of their receivers. He also had Emmitt Smith for the #2 RB. Needless to say, he rolled through the regular season. But of course the Bills had homefield clinched, so they rested all their starters, and he got stopmed in our title game. Ever since then, we always set our schedule to aviod a final week superbowl. We now have it week 15.

I think we can cut two wild cards. I know my squad wasn't deserving of a playoff berth this year. I think the three division winners, and one wild card team is all we need. A quick two week playoff and were done week 16.

I could live with a smaller playoff docket... although it's always more fun with more teams! The one thing a 1-team wildcard scenario would prevent is late-season runs. In my other league (dynasty), Rich's RABID LLAMAS stunk up the first half... then ripped off 7 straight wins on way to not only a wildcard birth (3 wildcard spots in our league) but also a championship birth (and nearly won there, too!). Anyway... let's talk about this with ALL THE OWNERS in the offseason.

It is a precarious balance between making sure the league is competitive all year (ie, having enough playoff spots to ensure that teams remain competitive since they are still in the hunt), and eliminating the importance of the regular season all together. Personally, I think the playoffs should be for the teams that have proven themselves to be the best for the whole season. While the Central Division was a little weak this season (or should I say competitively balanced?) and team was allowed to get in on the merits of half the season, the shrinking off the playoff pool wouldn't have changed much this year. I do however feel that fewer teams should be allowed to "get hot" at the end of the season, and ruin the playoffs for a team that dominated for the whole season.

But, as far as avoiding week 17, there really are only two options. Either cut a game from the regular season, which would mean either not playing one team that year, or playing one team in your own division only once (neither option I like), or cutting the playoff pool down to 4 teams. I prefer that option.

I would be in favor of only 4 playoff teams as that would mean making the playoffs really means something. Again, we would need the owners to maintain competive balance as this would mean more teams are eliminated sooner. We must somehow guard against teams simply giving up or tanking to get better draft positions next year. I love this league and would like to see it continue to grow into the most challenging league I've been a part of. This dynasty style management is very fun and I'm glad we have a very good set of owners who seem active and competent. Being only in its 2nd year I still think we can still grow. I dont know if this has come up yet but one of the challenges is to keep everyone active throughtout the year, even after their teams may be eliminated. Perhaps some kind of minor reward system for winning games would encourage this. Something like 50 extra cbs for next year's cap for each victory after week 10. Just a random thought, we could come up with something that seems more fair since this might be difficult to implement. I dunno. Lots of rules discussions to talk about.

Also, can someone give me the rundown of the off season sessions?
