Default Offseason Moves Resulting in Penalties

So I missed a good page of cuts and renegotiations and I'm already running into active roster contract year penalties from renegs. How should these be handled? Or just ignore them?

I don't mean to be a &^%*, but haven't we always said it's each team owner's responsibility to keep track of their own cap figures and to notify you of inconsistencies in the roster app?

As I stated in other posts, since renegs are not due until April 1, I don't see an issue. If the reneg puts you over, it just doesn't go through until room is made. If room is not made before April 1, the reneg doesn't happen

So as long as they made the needed moves to correct the situation before April 1, they're ok, but what about now?

But I will point to the rule book (see bold section below) that says "as with the salary cap, no team may exceed this cap at any time." Thus the salary cap and contract years cap may never be exceeded. If it is the appropriate moves (i.e., cuts, trades) must be made.

7C. Contract Years Cap

There will be 2 types of Contract Years Caps per team, an Active Roster Cap which is 65 years (5 max/player), and a Taxi Squad Cap which is 32 years (5 max/player). There is no Contract Year cap on the Practice Squad, however no player can be given a contract for more than 5 years.

A team's contract years obligation is determined by the total number of years, including the current season, that remain on player contracts. Teams must adhere to a maximum of 65 contract years for their team, meaning that the total number of years of all player contracts must not exceed 65.

There is also a limit for the length of any individual contract. No contract can be for more than 5 years.

As with the salary cap, no team may exceed this cap at any time. Extra contract years do not carry over from season to season. Contract years may not be traded to other teams in order to increase their cap.

If a team makes an acquisition (trade or free agent signing) which places them over the contract years cap, they must release appropriate personnel to meet the cap restriction. If a team fails to get under the contract year cap within 24 hours, roster penalties will apply.

I agree Pat. What I am saying, you have until April 1 to Reneg a contract. When you acquire a new player, that is immediate move to your roster. A reneg is a moving target. When a team tries to move a farm player up, and they do not have room, we tell them there is no room, and the move it not made. I don't think we have ever penalized the team.

My thinking, if no room for the reneg, then the reneg does not happen, if they do not make the adjustments before April. The penalty is they lose that extended deal and only get the player for one more year.

I am curious what are you thinking the penalty should be?

As I said, if the moves are not made in time, then the reneg does not happen...plain and simple.

This makes sense to me: "My thinking, if no room for the reneg, then the reneg does not happen, if they do not make the adjustments before April. The penalty is they lose that extended deal and only get the player for one more year."

OK, the Rules Committee came to consensus that the rules should follow what I suggested,
"if no room for the reneg, then the reneg does not happen, if they do not make the adjustments before April. The penalty is they lose that extended deal and only get the player for one more year."

So will add this to rule book
