BTW, we may want to review comp picks when teams acquire a 1st rd comp and also let one go. It's less of an issue with the later round comps, but is kinda the rich get richer in that they get another player of similar value and a 2nd rd pick.

Well...I don't think you can punish an owner for being a good GM...it's not like 2 owners colluded with bidding to basically swap RFA to increase draft capital...

But I would listen to whatever solution you believe is necessary...

Actually in this case AJ was a 2nd rd comp, so Pat gets 3 comp points which is are 3rd and 4th round comps. I though AJ was a 1st.

FWIW, I've picked up 1st round comps and let go 1st round comps many times myself over the years. As I get older and take life a bit slower, I start to look at things closer and wonder if there is a better way.

It's all good in the end, it is smart asset management and one way to pry RFA's, was just thinking out load that maybe we should consider off-setting comp picks with players acquired (the NFL does this now).

I think the comp points allows for more movement of players...most of us might not consider letting a top tier player go if we received no other compensation. So I guess it all boils down to what is the intention of an adjustment to the rule, and what could be effect of adjustment in the long run to the health of the league.

I kind of like the movement of players. Losing a top tier player is not usually going to be replaced by the points you get for that one player...you need to lose multiple to get a shot at 1st round pick, which is still a crap shoot in most cases.
