AP- Today after failed renegotiations the Bay Area Bloodsucking Insects have decided to release WR Plaxico Burress. The young and promisng WR was signed to a 2 year deal last year valued at 2520 cbs after showing great improvement in the 01-02 Season where he was the 9th Best WR in the league.
However, Burress failed to meet expectations as the teams's highest paid WR and 2nd highest paid player behind veteran RB Eddie George. In 02-03 campaign Plaxico Burress dropped to the 25th best WR.
With the offseason signing of Lavernues Coles and the in season signings of Steve Smith and Quincy Morgan the Insects felt they could move on without the potential stud WR. The starting WRs are projected to be: Coles, Smith, and Koren Robinson with Jerry Porter and Quincy Morgan as the back ups. While the starting 3 are small in stature, their speed will make up for it.
The Insects will clear 1188 cbs off of the 2004 cap. Allowing them to play with an estimated 5200 cbs in the RFA and UFA market. Burress may still re-sign with the team, but the top priorities are said to be re-signing franchise QB, Steve McNair and adding another workhorse back to split the load with 3rd year RB Clinton Portis.
