Soft Cap Question

If I were to cut Doug Gaberial before March 31 how would his $68 penalty be assessed? Is it $34 against 2004 cap and $34 against the 2005 cap?

Yes, the 2004 soft cap period runs through the 31st. My understanding is that $34 would count against 2004 and $34 would count against 2005.

That doesn't make much sense to me. Shouldn't it be split b/n 2005 and 2006? If not, dropping a player now would save you $$$ and I'll make sure I sharpen the sword before the soft cap deadline. 2004 is over!

Yup, the rules have always been setup this way, it allows you to soften the hit with cuts made by March 31st since half the hit will disappear on April 1st when the new year begins.
