Default Fat Nancies Off Season Review

New owner Stephen Smith has clearly taken a “softly softly catchee monkey” to the roster rebuilding job facing his team. Left by his predecessor with little cap room, limited talent and no draft to speak of, the moves made by this ailing team have been necessarily low key. Even the league office seems to be working against them, incorrectly confusing the team name choice with its sister Frenzy franchise. Sources within the ownership group have indicated that they are hoping that this faux pas can be corrected quickly and the SACD return to its original incarnation as the Fat Nancies.

On the roster, depth and a lack of serious star power appears to be the factors limiting its chances to make a serious impact on the league. There is youth and potential at the major skill positions in particular the younger Manning at QB and Jones and Jackson at RB. The WR corps is bolstered by the return of experienced veteran Hines Ward and with exciting young players like Fitzgerald and Andre Johnson who is expected to have a major return to form this year this unit is expected to be the driving force behind the franchise’s improved performance. At TE the ever reliable Crumpler returns but here as at QB and RB there is almost no depth to speak of.

On defense the high point is clearly the strength of the line with two top 10 player in Schobel and Kampman expected to be major contributors. The linebackers are solid with out being spectacular, they at least have youth on their side. The defensive backs have a genuine top performer in Adrian Wilson and solid backup performers.

With only 3 picks in the 2006 draft, the first of which was the 44th overall the coaching staff was genuinely surprised at the talent level of the players that were acquired. Tamba Hali and Darryl Tapp are both expected to be significant contributors in the short term on very cheap contracts while Jonathon Orr has talent and is clearly one for the future.

With very little cap room to play with the roster for opening day is largely set with the major task for the rest of the offseason clearly the gaping holes in the roster at RB3 and PK. Whatever happens it is clear that major restructuring will have to continue for at least another 2 years before this team is to be successful. This season it will take a slice of luck and the avoidance of ANY injuries to the starters for the league newcomers to be even competitive.

Whoops! Is it just Fat Nancies? Or do you have a city/town to associate with the nickname?

Nah, it's you're call. May I ask what "Fat Nancies" refers to? You calling your boys a bunch of girls? ROFLMAO

Or is there some Scottish significance to the name?

You know my Bob Dylan obsession right? All my team names (with the exception of the Highlanders) are chracters from Dylan songs, Roving Gamblers, Blind Willies, East Texas Martyrs and many more including Fat Nancy (from High Water on his 2001 album "Love and Theft") it just seemed appropriate, the song could have been written the day after Katrina rather than 5 years before.

Quote:
High water risin' - risin' night and day
All the gold and silver are being stolen away
Big Joe Turner lookin' East and West
From the dark room of his mind
He made it to Kansas City
Twelfth Street and Vine
Nothing standing there
High water everywhere

High water risin', the shacks are slidin' down
Folks lose their possessions - folks are leaving town
Bertha Mason shook it - broke it
Then she hung it on a wall
Says, "You're dancin' with whom they tell you to
Or you don't dance at all."
It's tough out there
High water everywhere

I got a cravin' love for blazing speed
Got a hopped up Mustang Ford
Jump into the wagon, love, throw your panties overboard
I can write you poems, make a strong man lose his mind
I'm no pig without a wig
I hope you treat me kind
Things are breakin' up out there
High water everywhere

High water risin', six inches 'bove my head
Coffins droppin' in the street
Like balloons made out of lead
Water pourin' into Vicksburg, don't know what I'm going to do
"Don't reach out for me," she said
"Can't you see I'm drownin' too?"
It's rough out there
High water everywhere

Well, George Lewis told the Englishman, the Italian and the Jew
"You can't open your mind, boys
To every conceivable point of view."
They got Charles Darwin trapped out there on Highway Five
Judge says to the High Sheriff,
"I want him dead or alive
Either one, I don't care."
High Water everywhere

The Cuckoo is a pretty bird, she warbles as she flies
I'm preachin' the Word of God
I'm puttin' out your eyes
I asked Fat Nancy for something to eat, she said, "Take it off the shelf -
As great as you are a man,
You'll never be greater than yourself."
I told her I didn't really care
High water everywhere

I'm getting' up in the morning - I believe I'll dust my broom
Keeping away from the women
I'm givin' 'em lots of room
Thunder rolling over Clarksdale, everything is looking blue
I just can't be happy, love
Unless you're happy too
It's bad out there
High water everywhere

All you boys and your reviews....I'm much too apathetic to put in that effort. maybe I'll write one for the Falcon Freuds instead.

Have the Fat Nanices selected a helmet? I need it for the creation of the SACD website (which is underway).
